In the lower right corner of the computer, I see two little icons that look like red X's, one of which is smaller than the other. When I open the task manager, I can end the process wscntfy.exe, but it comes right back up. Every few minutes, I get a Spyware Alert! message that my pc may be infected and that I should click to get antivirus protection. The url the message takes me to is: http://antivirus-scanner.com/1/?xx=1&i...a&affid=135 I've run HijackThis and here is the log: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 1:34:13 PM, on 4/28/2008 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\csrss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXBCES.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\cisvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\AdvTools\NPROTECT.EXE C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\SAVScan.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\wdfmgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\wanmpsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\fxssvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\alg.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\Program Files\Enigma Software Group\SpyHunter\SpyHunter3.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\cidaemon.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wscntfy.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\wbem\wmiprvse.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R0 - Hi freeverses,
Welcome to GeeksToGo, my name is Harry and I will help you out there. First: Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Extra Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly. Next: Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop. Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present). Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply. **If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there. Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user. http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm I would like to see the MBAM results, the smitfraud report and a fresh HJT log please Harry |

And the popup messages have not happened at all. Additionally, I was able finally to change my homepage back to hotmail.com, instead of uc-cleaner site. What should I do now? Thanks again. |

Lets do some more cleaning, you really had a mess there.
You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site. Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files. You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection. The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter". The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply. The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background. Download ComboFix from one of the locations below, and save it to your Desktop. Link 1Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall Harry |
