Hi, I have recently set up a wireless system in my home with Sky broadband. My primary computer is working just fine; good speeds and consistent. However, my secondary computer which I connect wirelessly to the net via a Belkin USB plug-in is proving to be nothing but a headache. Sometimes when turning the secondary comp on, the net is there, sometimes it is not. Even when it is there though, it is very, very slow. I am obviously concerned about the slow speeds and the consistent loss of connection. Sky have found no problems on my line, I have ran checks of spyware and viruses, of which there are no issues, but the problems persist. I was wondering if it is possible to connect my secondary computer directly to a phone socket in that room, rather than bother with this wireless system. What would I need to do this? Would I need to by another router and connect the secondary computer up in the same fashion as my primary computer? Also, would this conflict or affect my primary computer in any way? Can anyone offer me some solid options to make sure I can bring my Sky broadband upstairs to the secondary computer, consistently, but WITHOUT having any affect on my primary computer? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer folks. Cheers! |

Do you already have a Router? If so you would have to run a network cable to the second computer to connect.

your router should have 4 ports correct? the best thing to do is run a network cable directly from the router to the machine. a drill and 30ft of cable isnt as scary as it seems...lol...
i have 4 machines wired and 2 wireless in my home... im developing and the kids are constantly ripping music, no speed issues here... another option is to get a wireless pci card... found one here on tigerdirect for 40 bucks... |
