I am using a HP Pavillion notebook with Vista Home Premium. I have HP 1200 series hooked up with via a USB cable.

When I try to print, it says "sent to printer", but nothing prints. When I go to check the printer queue, there is nothing there.

Any suggestions?

Any error lights on the printer end? Can you even send a test page from the printer properties? Double check to make sure that you added the printer correctly (via USB port and not the other connections).

Hi, termin8or2, sorry about the wait.

I want to make sure that your drivers are installed properly. Please go to this link to run HP's driver check. I honestly don't know how it works, but let's just see what happens. biggrin.gif

Do you happen to have another computer you can use to test the printer? That way we at least know whether it is the printer or computer.

EDIT: Looks like greyknight picked this up. I'll keep monitoring this thread, though!

Thanks for the response.

I went to the hp website and did the test for drivers. It says drivers are OK.

Then I did the diagnostic, sent the test print, worked perfectly.

I go to Excel worksheet and send print, Excel notifies print is being sent, nothing happens.

I go to Notepad, type a test message, sent to printer, nothing happens.

I have checked print queue, nothing there.

I disconnected printer from computer, shut down both printer and computer, nothing.

Now am loading shotgun, not for me, for the hardware!!

That's not possible.....if the test page printed, it should have worked for the others, especially from Notepad.

Can you confirm again that you have selected your HP 1200 printer as the print device? It might be set to another default printer (like MS Office Document or others).

Go to your Control Panel, click on Printers - is your printer listed there?

If not, click on Add Printer and follow the instructions.

If it is listed, right click on the printer name and make sure "set as default" is selected.

If this doesn't work then it sounds like a communication problem between pc & printer.

Double-check your cable connections. If it's USB, make sure the port is enabled.

Printer is listed. It is set as default. USB port is enabled.

If the USB cable was faulty, how could I test print?

I can hook printer up to desktop and it functions perfectly.

This is really frustrating.

Ok.

Well you've proved that your printer is ok and the cable is ok.

From Excel, select File > Print

DON'T select the print icon, go through the file menu

Does your printer show up in the drop down box?

At the left hand side of the Print box are 4 items, Name, Status, Type, Where, Comment

'Where' should show the USB port it's connected to.

Make sure the number of copies is set to '1'

Make sure (Yeah I know - but this has happened before) you actually have a range selected for printing.

If all this fails, I'm at a loss I'm afraid.
