because my version of HiJackThis was outdated!! That's WRONG!! Ok.. Here we go again! I am NOT super computer literate, but I CAN follow directions, and yours seem good! Thanks in advance to all who contribute! First I'd like to explain what is happening, then move on to what I have done so far, and finally to the requested logs. ISSUES: I am getting pop up windows warning of spyware and adware infections, as well as hijack attempts. These "windows" LOOK LIKE windows type products, similar to phishing emails from "supposedly" my Bank. Also I get a pop up in my icons toolbar. A small yellow triangle with an "!" inside. This has a bubble of text with it, that so far 5-6 different "messages" warning me, pop up for about 20 seconds. Then about a minute later, a new "warning" text appears. Lastly, my desktop background has 2 yellow lines of text... "Warning: Spyware threat has been detected on your PC." "Click here to scan your PC for spyware..." These "links" are dead links. I found this was something added to my "Display Properties - Desktop - Background" Here there is a "new" choice called DEFAULT. I can change for like 5 seconds.. then old yellow is back! WHAT I HAVE DONE SO FAR: I have followed your tutorial on your forum page to the T. Yes, that means over 5 hours of scans, and downloads, etc. ATF Cleaner - Done System Restore - Done AVG ANti-Spyware - Done SUPER Snti-Spyware - Done, Log saved (below) Panda ActiveScan - Done, Log saved (below) AVG - I have an up to date, Norton 2006 Anti Virus program. Runs automatically. DID NOTHING! Windows Update - I have XP SP2, Auto downloads - DID NOTHING! Reboot - Still have issues!! HiJack This - Downloaded, Done, Log saved (below) That's it, except for the Logs. Hi jdphx
welcome to geekstogo sorry to keep you waiting. lets do a deeper scan of your machine for me to analyse. Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
you may need to post the logs over 2 replies to ensure all the information is posted. andrewuk |

Hi Andrew,
And thanks for the reply! Before I do as you suggest... I have some more info that MAY change your idea. I have my Norton's set up to run a weekly scan. I ran Norton's immediately after the computer became infected. Nothing. However with this "weekly" scan, it showed up with 5 different viruses. I continued as advised, and then restarted my computer. Now all SEEMS to be resolved. Shall I continue as you say, or run a fresh HiJackThis? Perhaps I am already "resolved"??? Thanks again, jdphx |

Hi jdphx
if you feel all your issues are resolved, and you are not detecting any odd behaviour from your machine and your security programs are not picking up any infections then it is your call but, i can do a quick check if you just put up a new hijackthis log. andrewuk |

Andrew,
I would feel better with a "quick look". Below is a fresh HiJackThis log. Also, is there any advantafe to keeping all of the antispyware programs from the forum "do this first" page? Seems I have quite a few... Plus just purchased SpyEraser, and don't want to duplicate or lessen effectiveness. looks like you have had an infection that has been doing the rounds recently, but, indeed, it seems to have mostly gone now.
so, lets do a couple of scans to clear away the remnants that will have been left behind and then we will pull down that fuller scan of your machine just to be sure. the scans will likely take 2 hours, quite possibly much longer. so just let them run. ====STEP 1==== Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
Under Main choose: Select All Click the Empty Selected button.
Click the Empty Selected button. NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click the Empty Selected button. NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt. For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu. ====STEP 2==== Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Extra Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly. ====STEP 3==== i see you have SUPERantispyware on your machine. so we will make sure it is updated and do a scan. Double-click the SUPERantispyware icon to launch the program.
====STEP 4==== Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
In your next reply could i see: 1. the malwarebytes log 2. the SUPERantispyware log 3. the 2 DSS logs (there may only be one log though) The text from these files may exceed the maximum post length for this forum. Hence, you may need to post the information over 2 or more posts. andrewuk |
