OS: windows XP

I am installing a copy of windows XP on an old computer with a formatted hard drive - i bought it second hand. However, when I insert the XP cd, I get a message saying the hard drive cannot be found. I don't understand, because this computer obviously worked before, and if i open the maxtor formatting program on a boot CD, the hard drive is most definitely there. I do not have a chance to press F6 or anything. Any help would be much appreciated, aw2050

PS it is a 750MHz 256MB ram 28gig(apparently, though XP cant see it) hard drive. need any more info, just tell me. thankyou.

try using the maxtor formatting program to format and prepare the drive...just follow their instructions..

no....you need to find out who the manufacturer of your motherboard is, then find out which motherboard it is...like..what model....then go tho their website and download the new bios...it will tell you how to flash the bios...
