XP freezes on startup, XP doesn't make it past HP startup logo before freezing

OS: Windows XP



Safe mode doesn't work, booting from a disc doesn't work, the computer freezes once it gets to the startup screen. allows me to run boot from LAN, but the only other comp i have is a mac (don't know if this makes a difference). setup doesn't work. changing boot order doesn't work.

can't get past the HP invent screen. is my compy trash?

Hi,

Dose the POST Boot Find a Hard Disk?

If not, (and the computer is not under warranty) check the hard Drive Data cable & Power Cable is "pluged in"

If the computer is under warranty, call up HP before opening the case!

it didn't say anything about finding the hard drive. it counts the system, extended and cache ram. it's a laptop so it doesn't have the connector cable.
