For some reason, my XP Pro SP2 will now log straight back off after clicking the log in pic and diplaying the desktop for a brief time. I have worked through fixes dealing with userinit etc as found here and alse where, with no joy. (I did the file changes after slaving the HD to another machine). Can't run recovery or repair from the Installation Disk as the Administrator password I carefully entered and wrote down safely is not recognised! There is no possibilty of my having got this wrong, so the system is at fault here. I have used this same password to do other operations previously, WHEN I COULD LOG ON AND USE THE MACHINE! Can't face a reinstall at this point and would welcome any help. I have looked around extensively.
