Hi,
I've tried several anti-spyware solutions but it keeps coming back. Spybot - search and destroy detects and deletes it but it comes back as soon as I reboot. I've run through the ATF cleaner, system restore and AVG steps in your "read-before posting" faq and installed SuperAntiSpyware home edition. So far, only Spybot has detected the infection. I'm not able to run Panda Activescan because my antivirus (AVAST professional) thinks it's trying to download a virus (http://acs.pandasoftware.com/activescan/as5free/motor.cab/pskavs.DL). Avast believes it's Win32:CTX. My pc is on automatic windows updates and there are no security updates pending. I am not running explorer 7. Here's the hijack this log. I really appreciate your help! Thanks! ___________________________________________________________________ Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 10:00:50 AM, on 3/3/2008 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\S24EvMon.exe C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswUpdSv.exe C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZCfgSvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\guard.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\1XConfig.exe C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\VPN Client\cvpnd.exe C:\Program Files\Juniper Networks\Common Files\dsNcService.exe C:\Program Files\Hummingbird\Connectivity\9.00\Exceed\HumDisplayServer.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\RegSrvc.exe C:\Program Files\Dantz\Retrospect\retrorun.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Dantz\RETROS~1\wdsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\BacsTray.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\DSentry.exe C:\Program Files\Dell\Media Experience\PCMService.exe C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mm_tray.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sonic\Update Manager\sgtray.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliType Pro\type32.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliPoint\point32.exe C:\PROGRA~1\ALWILS~1\Avast4\ashDisp.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\NCS\PROSet\PRONoMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\avgas.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe C:\Palm\HOTSYNC.EXE C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\MESSEN~1\ymsgr_tray.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...rch/search.html N3 - Netscape 7: user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", ""); (C:\Documents and Settings\ERIC\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\gkhonkda.slt\prefs.js) N3 - Netscape 7: user_pref("browser.search.defaultengine", "engine://C%3A%5CProgram%20Files%5CNetscape%5CNetscape%5Csearchplugins%5CSBWeb_01.src"); (C:\Documents and Settings\ERIC\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\gkhonkda.slt\prefs.js) O2 - BHO: Yahoo! Hi,
I have some more information. The only tool that finds this problem is Spybot Search & Destroy 1.3. It's complaining about the following registry entry. O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup I looked up nvcpl.dll and it seems to be a library file for the nvidia display adapter (which I have). Does anyone know if this is a real problem? Is it possible the Spybot is giving me a false positive? Thanks! Eric |
