This is the problem: If I have a browser (for instance opened to a news website) open and then I open a second one and click a link off my homepage or other pages it opens a third page with the about:blank in the address bar and the page itself is blank. Then the page for the link shows up in the first browser and of course I lose the news webpage I was on. I have been given the all clear by Octagonal in the Malware forum. Octagonal has advised me to seek help here (or "Web Browsers and Email"). So, I put myself in your capable hands! Here is a link to my previous post: link |

Let's do a couple follow-ups....
Rescan with HJT, check these items (if present): R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = file:///C:/Users/New%20User/Documents/HOMEPAGE2.htm O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] "C:\Windows\System32\msconfig.exe" /auto O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.ameritrade.com O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.bnaiisrael-nm.org O15 - Trusted Zone: http://ipgweb.cce.hp.com O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.mayoclinic.com O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.netlibrary.com O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.operationfindachild.org O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.questionpoint.org Close all windows except HJT, then click "fix checked". Exit out of HJT and download Winhelp2002's deldomain.inf to your desktop. http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf Right-click on the deldomains.inf file and select 'Install' (you may have to 'Run as Administrator') It will appear to have done nothing, thats ok. Reboot/restart you machine normally. Are you still having the same problem? |

Your antivirus or firewall may shutting down the links, or possibly the "phishing" filter 'add-on' with IE7.
Let's just take another look... Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Ant...ware_d5756.html * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan. * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. * When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. Copy and Paste that log into your next reply. |

You're looking okay. Somewhere along the line, your settings are causing you a problem

If these lines are still showing on your HJT log, then put a check next to them, close all windows except HJT and click "fix checked'.
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&a...&pf=desktop R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&a...&pf=desktop Reboot. Are you using IE7 with IE7 pro when clicking on a link in a web page? |

I don't see those lines in the HJT log.
Can you tell me how to check about the IE7 thing? My version (when I go to HELP/About Internet Explorer) is 7.0.6000.16643 |

I see. Well I think I'll steer clear of it since it has bugs. I have enough problems. Where do we go from here?

I've had no "bugs" using IE7 pro on both of my Vista machines and my XP home.
I don't know what your tabbed settings are, so I don't know where to go from here. |
