adding an old slave and want to see its files, I need widows ME to 'see' the slave so I can extract files

My computer at work started shutting off after 30 seconds of running... I took out its hard drives and added its master as a slave to MY personal tower. The OS on MY personal tower's hard drive is Windows ME... It will not show me the new 'slave' hard drive or the files that I need to rescue. It does 'see' the slave in the BIOS but not in 'My Computer'.....

What is the correct way to see the files that I need to 'rescue'?

Check the jumpers on the drives. You may have to play with CS (cable select), master, and slave settings.

Well, I have tried various configurations... I even tried making the Master from the 'broken' computer the Master on MY computer... When I do, it starts to boot up, gets to the 'Windows is loading' screen, and then freezes...

I am thinking that because there is a newer version of windows on the H.D. from the 'broken' computer, it is not compatible with MY computer... I attempted to download "TweakUI" to help me but, apparently it does not work with Windows ME.....

Missed this: Sorry.
XP will read NTFS and FAT 32, but ME will not read NTFS.

HERE is something that might help.

NOTE: I have not tried that, so I can offer nothing on it.

best way at this point is to mount it in another XP unit.

Perhaps a firewire connection will be ack.. on the new(old) puter.. have had a problem similar before, for 40$ it is an option,, maybe not a fix, but enough to get your files..
