You Can accelerate Windows 2000's or XP's shutdown processes , although you need to take a trip to Registry Editor. Go To Start , Run , type regedit then navigate to Hkey_Local_Machine/System/CurrentControlSet/Control and select the Control Folder. right click on WaitToKillServiceTimeOut , select modify and reduce the value to less than 500 - the default is 20,000 (20 seconds) This Shortens the Time XP or windows 2000 Waits before automatically shutting down Apps Thanks for reading and get rid of that sluggish slow shutdown NvidiaDude.. As always, there are drawbacks to such tweaks.
First, careless registry editing can make your system inoperable (always good to make a disclaimer) Second, there are times when a program reports it is not responding because it is DOING something. Killing the program kills it before it can finish its job. This is a rare issue, but I can think of at least one case without too much trouble that it would be unwise. On one of my computers, I run a backup program as a service--it's job is to backup several important directories at shut down. Forcing a shutdown would kill this program if it is busy backing up and does not respond to Windows. So, KNOW your system before doing any tweak |
