i got to the red step three for the windows update. firefox crashed anytime i tried to access the windows site. so i switch to IE and the got me to it but with a big error The site cannot continue because one or more of these Windows services is not running: Automatic Updates (allows the site to find, download and install high-priority updates for your computer) Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) (helps updates download more quickly and without problems if the download process is interrupted) Event Log (keeps a record of updating activities to help with troubleshooting, if needed) To make sure these services are running: 1. Click Start, and then click Run. 2. Type services.msc and then click OK. 3. In the list of services, double-click on Automatic Updates and then click Properties. 4. In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply. 5. Verify that the Service status is started, if the Service Status is Stopped click on the Start Button. 6. In the list of services, double-click on Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) and then click Properties. 7. In the Startup type list, select Manual and click Apply. 8. Verify that the Service status is started, If the Service Status is Stopped click on the Start Button. 9. In the list of services, double-click on Event Log and then click Properties. 10. In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply. 11. Verify that the Service status is started, If the Service Status is Stopped click on the Start Button. If this does not resolve the problem you may request help from one of the following resources. For self-help options: Frequently Asked Questions Find Solutions Windows Update Newsgroup For assisted support options: Microsoft Online Assisted Support (no-cost for Windows Update issues so i did as it said to make sure everything is running but automatic updates is set to disable, i switch it to auto and press apply and it switches back to disable I've even tried manual but would switch right back. i didn't know if i should continue or not, i have auto updates on and have it look for updates everyday at 3a.m. so it should be up to date but i don't want to waste anyone's time with not running the update. is there a fix for this or should i just continue as normal without the windows update :S i would really like to get it removed without having to resort to a reformat, this comp didn't come with a backup win OS disc like my dell so i'd like to avoid that. but thank you in advance to whoever can help me! if need be i have the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware log if it is needed |

Ok I can see evidence there so lets go a hunting for the miscreants
Download OTScanit to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.
Please attach the log in your next post. To attach a file, do the following:

It looks like MBAM got most of it. Are you still experiencing windows update problems ?
Start OTScanit. Copy/Paste the information in the quotebox below into the pane where it says "Paste fix here" and then click the Run Fix button. CODE [Registry - Non-Microsoft Only] < AppInit_DLLs [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE] > -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs *AppInit_DLLs* -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_Dlls YN -> xzsvno.dll -> < AppInit_DLLs [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE] > -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs [Registry - Additional Scans - Non-Microsoft Only] < BotCheck > -> YN -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile\AuthorizedApplications\List\\C:\Program Files\SoulseekNS\slsk.exe -> %ProgramFiles%\SoulseekNS\slsk.exe [C:\Program Files\SoulseekNS\slsk.exe:*:Enabled:SoulSeek] [Files/Folders - Created Within 90 days] NY -> rwioaiij.ini -> %SystemRoot%\System32\rwioaiij.ini [Files/Folders - Modified Within 90 days] NY -> rwioaiij.ini -> %SystemRoot%\System32\rwioaiij.ini NY -> IadHide5.dll -> C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\IadHide5.dll [Empty Temp Folders] The fix should only take a very short time. When the fix is completed a message box will popup telling you that it is finished. Click the Ok button and Notepad will open with a log of actions taken during the fix. Post that information back here along with a new Hijackthis log. I will review the information when it comes back in. Also let me know of any problems you encountered performing the steps above or any continuing problems you are still having with the computer. |

In that case
Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean A good workman always cleans up after himself so...Download and run this small programme and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself. MBAM can be uninstalled via control panel add/remove along with ERUNT. But they may be useful tools to keep XP Now to get you off to a good start we will clean your restore points so that all the bad stuff is gone for good.
