Hello Lovely lisa,

Teenagers and computers are many times cause for concern, so much information, so convenient. Cute FTP Pro is a program that assists in transferring files from your local computer to a web server. Inherently this isn't a bad thing, as it allows you to publish files on the internet for websites and such. That'd be my guess as to why it was installed in the first place, if your teenager is building a personal web page.

This particular software is a trial version of a paid product and is actually quite aged (2003). There are better and less expensive FTP tools readily available if need be.

You may need to reinstall the application in order to uninstall it. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but it will replace any missing files and should then allow you to uninstall it. You can download Cute FTP Pro 3.1 from the following link:
http://www.soft32.com/download_74.html

After that, go through the uninstall process again and see if you have better luck.

Regards,

Ax

The issue of the "Uninstallable Application" can be resolved. Perhaps as easily as using Revo Uninstaller: http://www.revouninstaller.com/ If not, there are others available as well, including trials of paid programs. BUT.

I think it unlikely that this one program is the source of all your 'slowness.' it is very likely that after having a teenager use the system that it has become infected with malware of some sort.

I strongly suggest that you follow the procedures outlined here: http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Must-Read-B...-Log-t2852.html

When complete, post a HiJackThis log here: http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Malware-Rem...o-Here-f37.html

Please include full details about your system, the problem, your suspicions, and what you have attempted so far. You will be assisted by a trained malware removal specialist. When your helper gives you a clean bill of health, post back here, and we will help you get everything running properly. We will also help you set things up so that these problems will not occur again.

With free Returnil working, your child will be able to use the computer as desired, but upon reboot, all changes will disappear. With ERUNT working, unwanted changes can be quickly eliminated by restoring a Registry snapshot to a time when everything was normal.

Take the time you need in Malware, tell your daughter that she can use the computer as soon as it is fixed, and once clear we'll make sure you stay that way.

Keep us posted, OK?

And please do remember that children just do not really understand the risks of undisiplined net use. Heck, neither do many so-called adults. She is learning and experiencing so much right now in her young life. Computer protocols have got to be way down the list in terms of importance. Please be gentle.

We will get it set up so she can have fun and learn-AND- your computer will remain fully functional. Really.

(Can you tell I'm a Grampa?)
