Hello, on my Toshiba laptop with Windows XP Home Edition SP3, I am not able to connect to my wireless connection. It is using the built in Toshiba Wireless LAN Card. It shows limited or no connectivity and when I try to repair, it says ip address cannot be renewed. I just tried to uninstall, shutdown computer, and reinstall the device, but I get the same problem. What should I do? I'm writing this from my desktop computer with a wireless adapter. Both are set to connect to the same router.

Hey Johny,
Do you have wireless security/encryption setup (i.e. WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc)? If so, the most common cause for the issue you are describing is if you mistype the encryption keycode/passphrase. Try removing your wireless profile and attempt to connect again, being very careful when you enter the passphrase; are you able to connect? If you still cannot, login to your router's web interface and ensure that you do not have MAC Filtering enabled; if you do, please disable it and see if the issue persists. - Dan |

We probably should, but no the connection has no security set up on it
Where do I check if I have MAC Filtering Enabled. I'm on the web interface for the router (NETGEAR), but the only thing I can find involving MAC, is the MAC address |

What's the model number of your Netgear router? MAC Filtering is usually under a security subsection, sometimes Wireless security.

WGR614 v6
ADT094LPD0118 But the problem shouldn't be with the router, right? Because there are two other computers in my house that are connecting wireless to that same router including this one I'm using to write this. both of them are working fine. The laptop is the only one not connecting |

MAC Filtering would still fit, but you do make a good point. Please do this on your laptop (you'll need some form of removable media, such as a USB chip, in order to post the file).
Step 1 - Connectivity test:
