Examining 38147 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi...

I cant get past that screen when i tried to repair my computer!!
Please help, i have to fix my computer, it has a bsod 0x00000024
i did not back up my data so reformatting is a last option...
i really need assistance on this.

0x00000024: NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM

A problem occurred within NTFS.SYS, the driver file that allows the system to read and write to NTFS file system drives. There may be a physical problem with the disk, or an Interrupt Request Packet (IRP) may be corrupted. Other common causes include heavy hard drive fragmentation, heavy file I/O, problems with some types of drive-mirroring software, or some antivirus software. I suggest running ChkDsk or ScanDisk as a first step; then disable all file system filters such as virus scanners, firewall software, or backup utilities. Check the file properties of NTFS.SYS to ensure it matches the current OS or SP version. Update all disk, tape backup, CD-ROM, or removable device drivers to the most current versions.

Please read this Microsoft article. It says Windows 2000 but it also applys the XP.

Try running the chkdsk /r command from the command prompt.

Starting the Windows Recovery Console from the Windows XP CD-ROM
If you have not preinstalled the Windows Recovery Console, you can start the computer and use the Recovery Console directly from your original Windows XP installation disc. If your computer is already in Windows and you want to add the Windows Recovery Console as a startup option, go to the next section "Adding the Windows Recovery Console as a startup option."
1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your CD drive and restart your computer. If you are prompted, select any options required to start (boot) from the CD.
2. When the text-based part of Setup begins, follow the prompts. Select the repair or recover option by pressing R.
3. If you have a dual-boot or multiboot system, select the installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console.
4. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password.
5. At the command prompt, type Recovery Console commands, and then you can refer to the commands that are listed in the "Available commands within Windows Recovery Console" section.
6. At any time, you can type Help for a list of available commands.
7. At any time, you can type Help commandname for help on a specific command. For example, you can type help attrib to display the help on the attributes command.
8. At any time, you can exit Windows Recovery Console by typing Exit at the command line.

If you still cannot get the recovery console to work, i would entertain the idea that your hard drive has died. The hard drive makers have diagnostic software that can be run from a CD to check the hard drive without damaging any data on the drive.

I cant get my recovery console to work...

When I press R, the screen just stays there and says

Examining 38147 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi...

I've left that screen up for a whole day...
Is there anyway to fix this problem?
Can I still get back all my data even though the Hard drive died...?

With knoppix you can burn the data you want to a CD. If you cannot get to the hard drive with knoppix, the only option is using a company that will get the data at a very expensive price.

There are companys like these that do recovery. You really need to ask them the process of their recovery. Many do no more than you can do yourself. Usually the more expensive company's guarantee data recovery.

if i go to any local computer repair shops, are they able to recover all my data from my dead harddrive?
how much would it cost?
can they be trusted?
how do you know when a harddrive has died?

sorry for asking all of this, im just very upset right now about this

Do NOT choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R".
Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair.

You may try to slave your hard drive in another computer to recover data.

On the other hand, if everything goes well, Windows repair install should leave your data untouched.

I simply don't know. It depends on severity of damages.

I really think that I did a dirty shutdown and that my antivirus is the case of this...
Thats maybe why i got the 0x00000024 blue screen?
