Hi hardwarequru. Welcome to G2G. I clean my prefetch out about
every week or two, also do a Defrag and run CCleaner. You can get CCleaner Free at this site. http://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ Make sure you keep your files backup and up to date. No it will not slow bootup only for the first time or two why its rewriting prefetch files after that it will improve bootup time. This post has been edited by Dwight: Feb 24 2007, 12:18 PM |

the whole problem with the prefetch is that because deleting it doesn't gain in performance a lot of people and now posting up saying "don't delete the prefetch" as if it would somehow break the system if one did, in fact after three reboots the prefetch has remade itself which is no big deal while not deleting leaves have possibility that some orphaned entries waiting there to snarl the system
don't take my word for it, please do a search on this site under "prefetch" and another under "jo ducehead" |
