Are they turned on in the BIOS?
There is native support for COM ports, virtual and otherwise, in Vista no problems at all.

Normally press F1, F2, F10, Del or Esc to enter BIOS. Then find an appropriate option in one of the sub-menus. Every laptop is different so I can't be more specific.

I figured it out...I went online to search for drivers for the cable connection to the stb..it found one and installed it..I then went to device mgr and found the port using com 4..I then reconfigured the loader com port and it uploaded...
