As the topic title explains my computer has been randomly restarting itself after i have shut it down. This happens at random intervals sometimes after it is shut down it will take 5 minutes to restart and other times longer (when i wake in the morning the system is on). Last night it happened 4 times and teh only thing i could do to stop it was turn the switch of on the back of the power supply. in the bios i have disabled the feature "wake on LAN" in attempt to see if that was the problem (maybe somethign trying to be sent to the computer) but that didnt fix it and i dont think its a harware problem (if it was i would have fixed it already) lol harware is my thing not software this is wear you experts can help me! i have run ad-adware, VET anti virus, spybot search and destroy and antispyware by microsoft and have deleted a few things but that hasnt seemd to fix the problem. before you reveiw my log i think i should tell you some info about my hard drives i have two hardrives that are partitioned twice meaning hard drive 1--> C drive and K drive (K drive i install all programs to i like to keep the seperate because it is more oraganised) hard drive 2 --> D drive (documents) and L drive (backup) well i guess you would want my hijack this log so here it is. Please make sure that Word Wrap is turned OFF in Notepad before you post your HijackThis log. As you can see, the formatting it creates (see the log you posted) makes it harder for us to read it. Run a new HijackThis scan and post the log here without the Word Wrap.
Did you install anything before this problem began? Take a look here for some troubleshooting steps when it restarts instead of shutting down. |

No problem...it just goes to show that we do check the Waiting Room
Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Please download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/. 1. Install Ewido Security Suite. 2. When installing, under 'Additional Options' uncheck: * Install background guard * Install scan via context menu 3. Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double click it. 4. The program will now open to the main screen. 5. When you run Ewido for the first time, you might get a warning 'Database could not be found!'. Click OK. We will fix this in a moment. 6. You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files. * On the left hand side of the main screen click update. * Then click on start update. 7. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. The status bar at the bottom will display 'Update successful'. 8. Exit Ewido. DO NOT scan yet. If you are having problems with the updater, you can go to http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/ to update manually. Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Don't run it yet. Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode (if you don't know how, go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...showtutorial=61 ). Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you check the last one: R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - <default> - (no file) O2 - BHO: Accoona Search Assistant - {944864A5-3916-46E2-96A9-A2E84F3F1208} - blank (file missing) O8 - Extra context menu item: Web Rebates. - file://C:\Program Files\WebRebates4\websrebates\webtrebates\toprC0.htm O16 - DPF: {A91DEB0D-AD0D-453E-9AC8-60178EC24212} (VPlayer Control) - http://www.wherethebloodyhellareyou.com/tv.../vivid_ocx.jpeg Uninstall WebRebates via the Add/Remove panel if found. Locate and delete the following: C:\Program Files\WebRebates4\ CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp!. Run CleanUp! and click on the Options button. Uncheck 'Scan local drives for temporary files'. Also uncheck those two Newsgroup entries if you don't want to delete them. Click OK and then click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run. After it's done, choose Yes to logoff. Run Ewido now: * Click on scanner and then Settings. Under 'What to scan' select 'Scan every file' and hit OK. * Click on 'Complete System Scan' and the scan will begin. * While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds. Choose 'Remove', then put a check next to 'Perform action with all infections' in the left corner of the box so you don't have to sit and watch Ewido the whole time. Click OK. * Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named 'Save report'. * Click 'Save report'. Save it to your desktop. Restart your computer to get back to Normal Mode. Post the Ewido report and a new HijackThis log here. |

It could mean a good or bad thing. If the antivirus program is up-to-date, I would say it will usually catch the virus file. I say usually because they might not have that detection in their database...which brings me to your next question. Which antivirus do I think is the best? None of them...There is no "best" antivirus program out there. I find that it may fluctuate sometimes...like one may be rated as being the best in one month...then another one is said to become "better" the next. I have used AVG for years now and think that's the "best" but it's far from being #1. Which is why we usually ask users to run some additional scans like Ewido or Panda's ActiveScan online.
Try checking and fixing these in HijackThis again: R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - <default> - (no file) O8 - Extra context menu item: Web Rebates. - file://C:\Program Files\WebRebates4\websrebates\webtrebates\toprC0.htm Restart and post a new HijackThis log. |
