computer restarts in the middle of ad-aware scan

OS: Windows XP
Today, my computer started restarting itself in the middle of an ad-aware scan. There have been times in the past when the scan was finished and the program asked to restart the computer in order to remove things. Now, the program is in the middle of scanning when the computer restarts. It returns to the desktop like it was the first time I turned the computer on for the day. I have scanned with norton, ewido, spybot, and windows defender. All scans showed up clean. Any thoughts as to what the problem is?
