i posted this problem in the malware removal forum and was redirected here by greyknight17. here's a copy of my original post: "i have a disturbing problem with my machine. once in a while, while working with my lap top it suddenly starts to beep and 3 of its lights are blinking. after one minute or so it shuts down. i didn't manage to do anything against it. i have two other problems which might be related. a while ago, i was surfing the net unprotected and got infected with all kinds of #%@#. i managed to remove most of these pests, but my AntiVir now displays the message "can't create a report file" before preforming a scan. then, the scan detects an IstBar trojian (ysb_regular[1].cab) which it can't fix since "infected files in archives will not be deleted or repaired".. i downloaded and ran the Symantec Cooperation fix tool but it didn't find IstBar on my computer.. i use winxp and still did not update it with the sp2 service pack.." since i wrote this mail, my computer started to beep and shut down almost immediatly after i turn it on and i cannot operate it. even when i boot into safe mode the problem prevalis. here are some technical details about my laptop: i bought it in germany from some unknown firm. it is simply called notebook computer. the label on it says it's model d4105. It was assembled with parts of many different manufactors. my CPU is: Intel Celeron 2.4 GHz and i have 256 MB of memory. the beeps are short and last for approx. one minute before shut down. if you need to know the exact num of beeps let me know and i'll count them. if someone can help me out i'll be grateful. thanks, ww |

my computer is cooperating with me for the time being so i could run the program on it.
here's the entire summary report: (by the way, when i checked my device manager before, it was written under USB controler that "the drivers for this device are not installed (code 28)" and under resources settings tab that "this device isn't using any resources cause it has a problem". is this related to my problem? should i do something about that?) This is a list of Phoenix beep codes
http://bioscentral.com/beepcodes/phoenixbeep.htm Could you try to get the correct one With the USB, you can right click it, click uninstall, confirm then reboot to see if Windows installs it when it loads Remove any USB leads when you do this and plug them in after the reboot |

my beeping pattern doesn't fit any of the "official" beeping sequences. it's a 1-1 pattern, using the phonix bios definitions. thus, there's one quick beep followed by another with a very short delay inbetween. could it be that another element (malware ?) is causing these beeps? besides, that webpage doesn't mention anything about the computer shuting down after it beeps. |

" once in a while, while working with my lap top it suddenly starts to beep and 3 of its lights are blinking. after one minute or so it shuts down. "
If the laptop will still run then boot it and keep tapping the delete key to enter set up, look for and load BIOS defaults / fail safe defaults, press F10 to save the changes, type Y to confirm and press enter As it reboots, keep tapping F8 until you get options, choose safe mode and see if it runs any longer If you cannot keep the laptop running for very long then use another PC to download and save to disc Everest Home Edition, then load it on to the laptop Please set a system restore point before you install anything Download Everest Home Edition Run it, click + next to computer then sensor to see what the temperatures are |

perhaps there was a misunderstanding, i already installed everset but i didn't know i should set a system restore point beforehand..but i guess i can use the automatic points set by the computer previously.. ok, the sensor measures the temp of two objects: 1. CPU 41 degrees celcius 2.IBM IC25N020ATMR04-0 27 degrees pressing delete doesn't have any effect for some reason..can i enter this set using a different method? sorry that's everything is so problematic..i hope you're not getting frustrated.. |
