ddr2 800 sdram?

Hi 2212,

Can you tell us what motherboard you have, the make and model? If it's a pre-built computer, can you tell us the make and model of the computer? Some motherboards can only take certain amount of RAM and I want to make sure that you'd be able to use the one you're going to buy.

I checked in crucial.com and it says you will be able to install 2x2GB of RAM.
You can check it here.

Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-6400,DDR2 PC2-4200,DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-8500 with a maximum of 2GB per slot.*

Note that you have 2 RAM slots so 2x2GB will work.
You can get the Kingston you had on your first post or if you're into Mail-in-Rebate, this would be a much better choice, Mushkin 2x2GB. It is cheaper after the rebate and it also has a heat spreader unlike the Kingston.

RAM should be plug-n-play.

Just make sure the computer is turned off (unplug from the wall), ground yourself by touching the metal part of the computer case and then install the RAM.

Also, my recent experience taught me that it is much easier to insert one thing of RAM at a time instead of at the the same time...

What I usually do is install one RAM at a time and the way I do it is to press down one end until it "clicks" and then do the same thing on the other end.

thank you both, i already ordered the RAM (Mushkin) and i hope this does wonders to my computer.if i have more questions, i will post here.

sooooo, i finally got the mushkin and i installed it. when i started the comp, it started beeping and didnt boot. i removed one and started, it worked perfectly. is this a bios problem? i dont know whats going on, please help.

I am guessing the other RAM you took out is dead.
Try out the test below, if you get errors then it is dead. You can send it back to get replacements.

Take out the working RAM and install the one that didn't work.

1) Download Memtest86 ISO file. Ensure you select the "Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)" link of the latest version.
2) Burn the Memtest ISO file on a CD, follow the instructions in this How To Burn Image to Disc Guide by Troy.
3) Once your done, insert the CD onto your computer's DVD-drive and boot up the computer (press any key if asked to boot up from the CD/DVD).
4) The memtest program should automatically begin.

it finished and nothing happened. what i noticed was a cas 5 5 5 18. i saw on the chip a 5 5 5 12 is this something i should be worried about? also, i dont think the chips are problem, i plugged in one chip on the second slot and it beeped when i booted it.

also, i researched my mobo and it seems like its problematic, i found one other person that coudnt use two ram chips simultaneously. the thread didnt say anything about a fix.

So you've tried the other RAM stick on the 2nd slot and it beeped? does that mean it didn't boot up?
Do you know if your 2nd RAM slot is working properly?
