Alright... heres the low down....

Not exactly sure what site I stumbled upon that gave me this spyware app... but things were pretty abysmal in the beginning. Computer was running terribly slow, had a bunch of new system tray icons, and even a new background that said something to the extent of "your computers security has been compromised... please go to this website to scan" blah blah blah the whole nine yards.

On my computer I have norton, web root, and ad aware... all three of which I scanned with. They each found and deleted something that the other programs werent able to find, but I still found my computer running slowly, and sometimes even giving me error messages saying "your computer must now shut down in 0:59 seconds".

I downloaded and ran pandas root kit, as well as super anti spyware (my saving grace).

Everything is pretty much back in order, but I still get the "internet speed monitor" pop ups, and after taking a look at my start up programs... I know for certain that there are programs in there that shouldn't be.

This site has come highly recommended from a friend of mine... because after about three days of searching around and posting my HijackThis log, I havent had a single response... so I'm hoping for better luck from you guys. :)

Here is the log, I disabled norton before I scanned so that it might deliver more accurate results...

Hi,

* Download ComboFix from here.
**Save it to your desktop**

In case you have used Combofix before, please delete the version you are having and redownload it again, because Combofix is being updated everyday.

In case your Antivirus or any other realtime scanner is displaying an alert after you downloaded Combofix or while you use Combofix, please disable your scanner and redownload Combofix again. Because some scanners may see some combofix related components as suspicious and block or delete them while there's nothing wrong with them.

* Doubleclick combofix.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.
In case you see a sed.cfexe error with the option to send a report or not, choose "don't send".

When finished and after reboot (in case it rebooted), combofix will open again to gather the necessary information for the log. This may take a bit. When done, Combofix will close and a log should open, combofix.txt.
Post the contents of this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt - unless I ask you to.

This may not be important at this point, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to let you know I had two more pop ups while posting these new logs... I hope that is of some use to you.

Hi,

Do next please..

* Open notepad - don't use any other texteditor than notepad or the script will fail.
Copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into notepad:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ace16win.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\stfv.bin
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svvwa.bak1
C:\WINDOWS\mmbin.exe
C:\WINDOWS\mmmspool.exe
C:\WINDOWS\mm_tmp_r.exe
C:\WINDOWS\mmbin3.exe
C:\WINDOWS\ISMSetup14.exe
C:\WINDOWS\plite731_uninstaller_.bat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dpqaqlqx.bin
C:\qhniw.exe
C:\wqmtcobe.exe
C:\hxhmv.exe

Folder::
C:\Program Files\QdrModule
C:\WINDOWS\system32\acespy

Registry::
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"QdrModule9"=-
"Aim6"=-
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon]
"Userinit"=-

Save this as txtfile CFScript

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

Posted Image

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThislog.

Hi,

Well, that worked. Everything looks Ok again.

* Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Let me know in your next reply how things are now :)

Thanks a lot for all of your help. Everything seems to be working fine now, I havent noticed any pop ups, and I have my background back.

One last thing... are there any other programs I can use to scan just to be sure that everything is gone? Things seem to be running a tad bit sluggish, and I'm a perfectionist when it comes to performance (who doesn't prefer a speedy rig?)

I'm going now to do panda's online scan, any others that you think would be worth checking out?

Glad I could help. :)

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.

Well, then you should consider another Antivirus, because Norton Internet Security is known to cause a huge slowdown. :)

Yeah I'm switching to kaspersky as soon as this subscription expires, I never really had any problems with norton, but it didnt seem like it found everything it should have.

Anyway... panda scan found one spyware app named "NirCmd.A" I'm going to try and see if webroot or adaware can find it. In the mean time, is there any advice you have as far as removing it?

My apologies for that last post... I did a little research, and apparently, the "NirCmd.A" file that I mentioned actually does no harm to ones computer.

Thanks again for all of your help! You guys were definitely the right choice.

Hi,

Yes, "NirCmd.A" is harmless. It's a command line tool Combofix installed. :)
You can leave it, or you can delete it - the choice is yours.
