Waaaaay back in post #5, you were at a menu listing setup options. Get back to that menu as you did before, select the partition that Windows is installed on, and choose "To set up Windows xp on the selected item press enter"...press "Enter".

If memory serves, the next screen should list the formatting options...this is where it varies from machine to machine so I'll have you verify each step before we proceed.

The last option for formatting should be "Leave the current file system intact (no changes)".

Is this option available or do you see a different screen?

ok ive got mmore or less to where you said but all the time ive got different things, after pressing f8 i now have a screen which says
instalation of windows ex home edition
if one of the following instalations of windows xp is damaged one of the instalation programs will try to repair it
use the keys to choose
to repair the instalation of windows xp press r
to continue a new instalation without repairing press esc.
(im translating this from spanish so sorry if its not how it should be written lol.
ps i didnt have this option b4.... thanks again

Your documents should be fine. You will have to install Windows updates, though. If by chance you are asked for the product key, use the one from the sticker on the laptop.

try the marked windows xp cd sp2

then retry
cancel
examine (search)
