There are more things to look at than the age of your pc, especially when it comes to playing games. Do you know what your video card is? System specs?
If you go to start and enter dxdiag, you will see a list of basic system specs. If you click the display tab, it should tell you some info about your video card. |

so you are having "lag" issues when playing multiplayer. How about when you play single player?

It lags in single player too. In the menu screen, there is snow falling in the background, and even that is laggy.

ok, that means your system is being challenged by it's video. While it has a better solution to intel's intergrated video, it doesn't support gaming very well. There just isn't many suggestions we can provide because it's a laptop.

I don't think you should really have problems running the game, you can try turning down the graphics settings as low as they can go and see if that will get it to stop stuttering. Also, take a look on HP's website for video drivers for your specific system, install those and see if the problem goes away.

If the above suggestions do not work, try checking your power scheme. I've ran into laptops that were in power saver mode and were showing similar symptoms. As you'd imagine, this power setting slows down the computer significantly.
