I am building a semi low cost gamer and I have come up with two possible builds..one is Intel based and the other AMD. PLease look at both and tell me which you would think is best bang for the buck, and the best choice for me. Is your budget $1000? You can make that Intel build a lot better with $1000 budget (as what you have with your AMD build)

Intel Build
I would change the video card to XFX 8800GT 512MB as this is way better than the 8800GTS 320MB you listed.

Is there a reason you went with the DFI board? I've heard that its good for overclocking (if you have experience with OC'ing as DFI boards have advance OC'ing features). If you're not overclocking then I'd suggest going with a Gigabyte EP35-DS3L

Also I'll change the power supply to this Corsair 550W as its better quality and that Rosewill is out of stock.

Thanks for your comments. The thing to note here in my builds are that yes i do plan to OC..but i feel like the AMD build will leave me with the most options. I cant use SLI with my intel build if i wanted to in the future. My computer i have now is an amd chip and its been fine for me these past 2 years. The thing with the 8800gt is that it only has an HDTV out.. and no s-video..as far as i know..and the HD radeon's have the s-vid ( i like to hook up my tv as a monitor sometimes with my wireless keyboard and mouse so i can sit on my futon). My AMD build is about $820 bc i am not going to use crossfire right away. Also there are some mail in rebates an what not, so im just under $800, which is where i would like to stay. All in all though, is the intel or AMD the one i want to go with?

Just a few comments on kamille316's post, and the build so far:

You will be able to overclock on the Gigabyte motherboard. Depending on how far you wish to overclock, it may be worth heading for the DFI, but considering that you are intending to use air-cooling, I would stick with the Gigabyte.

I agree that an Intel build will be a much better option for you. If you can find it, get the E8400 over the E6850, but it's no biggie - they're both excellent processors that will run and overclock well.

I prefer Seagate hard drives as they offer a 5-year warranty over Western Digital's 3 years.

If you are not intending to run SLI or Crossfire immediately, don't bother. By the time you're ready to upgrade, just purchase the newest available card and sell the old one to help fund it.

OK thanks a lot! I am taking your suggestions into consideration. Waiting to hear back from a few others, but i think one way or another I have a pretty solid build all in all. I will probably order the parts the parts in a week or two (once i start work) and I will post some results on here, or if i have any issues. Thanks again.

Also drop the artic silver compound. The Artic Cooling cooler come with the thermal paste pre-applied. You won't see a performance increase with metalic grease vs ceramic grease so it will not be worth the $6 and the mess.

Ok..thanks for that.. so here is the updated build. I will prob. go ahead and order this sometime within a week or two, unless there is anymore issues anybody can see? The PSU is the only upgrade here, and i got rid of the thermal paste. Is the modular cabling something I would really want here or no? I don't really think I am going to have a huge mess in there, plus this PSU can be used later if i want to use SLI or CF.

Hey, I don't know if this is an issue.. I think it is but...isn't that 8800gt a PCIe 2.0?? And that mobo is only PCIe regular..Won't This cause a conflict?

Haha, ok I thought that, but won't it be sort of like playing a ps1 game, on a ps2? Would it not let the card hit its limits? Also, do you think I should OC my card as well? I know my antec 900 has crazy cooling power...and am def. going to OC the cpu, and I hear the ram is capable of it as well.
