how do u open ports

okay, i play this game called counterstrike but when my brother goes into a server i cant connect to the same server he is in... i have been told its cuz i have to open my ports but i dont know how. i use netgear adapter card can anyone help?

What are you using for a firewall? That is where you need to open the ports.
