hp pavilion 5000zx display is dim

OS: XP Home edition
My HP Pavilion 5000zx display is barely visible. I tried a restart, f8 and f7 dim control, control panel and display options. I hooked the laptop to a different monitor and it worked fine. I can just barely see the wall paper/icons on the laptop display. Thanks for any suggestions.

Backlight problem on the laptop most likely. Needs servicing. Not something you can do yourself, unfortunately.

Could also be the invertor but they can be a bit tricky if you are not tech savy....
