Ok, as you said on the IRC you don't have administrative rights on your account.

I'd like to see some more information. Please follow the steps below.
  1. Go to Start -> Run.
  2. In the Box, type in "cmd".
  3. A black box will appear. Type in the commands of the codebox below.
    CODE
    net localgroup
    net users
    net accounts
  4. A lot of information will appear, Please right click the black window and hit mark.
  5. Select every line of text you recieved and copy it into your next reply.

Note: Make sure EVERYTHING is selected.

Regards,
Olrik

Well... RTF stands for Rich Text Format, so I believe you can use Microsoft Word to open it.

Right click on any .RTF file and select Open, then click Select Program From List.

Here you can select Microsoft Word to open any .RTF files. After you found Microsoft Word in the list, make sure "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is selected.

It should work now. If you dont have Microsoft Word, please right back.

Thanks!

Ok, I need to head off to bed. I'll explain the situation to others.
the user wants to open an .rtf extention.
In the Open With list it won't say word pad.
I let him open the Folder Options -> File Types to make a new association however he's not on an admin account.

What would his options be?

Olrik

Well since we can't determine if you have the right intentions over the internet we can't help you to gain admin access.
However others might know how to fix the association.

Olrik

Ohh ok.

I think I can help.

Right click on any .RTF file and select Open, then click Select Program From List.

Here click on Browse and navigate to this directory:

C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories

In here you should fine Wordpad.exe

Click it then click Open.

After, make sure "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is selected.

Finally, click OK.

It should work now.

Please write back if it worked, I dont want to be left thinking.

Best Regards,

PILL5B3RRY
