I am getting two messages when i start my PC:-

"Error loading p2esocks_1019.dll. Module not found"
"The Motive Chorus client has developed a fatal error"

I suspect that these may have been the result of actions of McAfee or other scanning programs. I have no idea what Motive Chorus is, or why I should need it.

Any ideas?

Hey jojsh45 and welcome to the site.

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure. Please move Hijack This to a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Reboot in safe mode (by tapping F8 at startup and select safe mode from the menu). Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold:

C:\WINDOWS\izmn.exe
C:\WINDOWS\realtime.exe

Next, please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://uk.red.client...fo/bt_side.html

There is also an unnecessary OfFice process running that uses A LOT of RAM. For more info and how to disable it, see here:

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log, and let us know how your system's working. <_<

Firstly, big congratulations on your fast service. Brilliant!

The p2esocks message has disappeared, but the Motive Chorus one persists.

I've done all the fixes you have suggested. However, izmn.exe was not in c:\windows folder. I think ad-aware may have removed it. Also, your instructions duplicated removal of o16 - dpf: {469C............. akamai...........
There was another o4 entry referencing akamai ...........{0594AF7E............ and i also ticked this one. Hope that was correct.

New log follows, immediately after a reboot.

Re the other akamai entry that was an O16 entry, not O4. Apologies for confusion.

Your log is clean. What does the Motive Chorus error say exactly?

Mysterious!. I rebooted twice after applying the fixes yesterday, and got the Motive message each time. This morning I've restarted twice to give you the exact text, but I can't because the message is not appearing!

Consider this one closed - I'll revert if it reappears.

Again thanks for the great service.

Well in that case, Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN <_<

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use).

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.
Link to SpywareBlaster: http://www.geekstogo...tion=show&id=12

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder in a couple weeks if everything is working okay.

If you ever get tired of paying for antirirus, AVG offers a great free program:
http://free.grisoft....us/doc/2/tpl/v5

Also, make sure your Windows Firewall is turned on. To do this:

1. Go to "Start", then "Control Panel"
2. Click on "Network and Internet Connections", then "Network Connections" at the bottom
3. Right-click on your internet connection and choose "Properties"
4. Click the "Advanced" tab and make sure "Protect my computer..." is checked
5. Hit "OK" and you will now be protected from hackers

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend Firefox.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. :D

Thanks for all the advice, most of which I've installed.

Great job

Try looking in add/remove programs for any of these:
HP Instant Support
Broadband Help
Matcli
e-care
NTL Broadband Medic
Verizon Online Support Center

Motive Chorus is part of a program installed by your broadband provider, and with some HP products. It appears to have compatibility problems with XP, and no harm will be done uninstalling it.

Hi did this work for you, please let me know because i'm having the same problem

Any ideas?
