dunno if i should post it here, if its work please move it. i just installed a new hd today.. when i checked the hd drives, 2 of the same drives have the same windows files in it... so now i dont know if i should delete it or not, wondering if its the main files or the copyed.

if you dont get it, its my c and my e drive has the same windows files in there.

You installed a fresh, brand new drive, correct?

Did you do any kind of hard drive clone? Or did you just stick in the new drive and there were files on it?

And did you set the new drive as Master, Slave, or Cable Select?

yep brand new from the comp store

i did just stick in the hard drive thats all, and the windows start doing weird things... i dont know if its a master or a slave... usually my first hd is my master.

Is the E: drive your CD and you are looking at the files you just installed?

usually my c drive is my cd, when i installed my hd, i went to the sys bio and changed my new hd to the secondary and left my first master hd to first.... so then probaly my c drive is cd...

okay...I say we collect info about your computer. This will let us see what's up:

Download and run WinAudit. Save the audit to your desktop. This will save three files. Take all three files and put them into a single zip (compressed) folder. Name the folder WinAudit. Attach it to your next post.

It is for us. I attached it so others could benefit, rather than going through that website you posted. It's easier that way.

edit - i just checked, both my hds are masters. how do i change it to slave?

That's what I figured. In the WinAudit, your new hard drive wasn't showing up.

On your new hard drive, look at the back, where the cables plug in. You should see a row of pins that have a jumper on one of the rows. This jumper sets whether the HD is master, slave, or Cable Select. Somewhere on the hard drive, or in the instructions, you will see how to set it up as a slave.

If you have any trouble finding that, let me know. I can look for pictures of how to set up your HD for you.

After setting it up as a slave, you must partition the new one and format it. Be careful that you don't format the one with your data on it! If you need help with that too, let me know.

that would be great if you posted some pictures on how to make it a slave and such. it would be great if you help me on everything! my final resort is to reformat the comp which i am going to do, but one problem is that i cant reformat, when i go reformat it says it dosent see any hds plugged or connected... and it acually is.. it would be great if you help me on that also.
