Well, I haven't been at my computer a lot since my last post, but up til then I was receiving random warnings from AVG that a virus had been detected. Very odd named virus
C:\System Volume Information\.... lots of garbage\A0062896.exe

Not sure if its the same virus everytime, I took a screen shot the otherday so I wouldn't forget it. But since that last post the other night, I haven't seen anything.

Flush your system restore, this will delete any restore points that you have but it will also make sure that any malware hiding in system restore will be booted off.
Turn off System Restore:
- On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
- Click Properties.
- Click the System Restore tab.
- Check Turn off System Restore.
- Click Apply, and then click OK.
Create a restore point:
- Click Start and point to All Programs.
- Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
- In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a
restore point" and click the Next button. - Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After
cleanup". Click Create and you're done.
==========
Use Killbox to delete this file.
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\1_32bean32_1.dll
Then fix this line with Hijackthis.

I ran killbox on the file
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\1_32bean32_1.dll
I got a message saying the file could not be deleted.
Lastly, I ran HijackThis and probably no suprise, I could not fix the line...

- Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
- Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
Files to delete:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\1_32bean32_1.dll
Registry keys to delete:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\1_32bean32_1reg
Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.
3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
- Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
- Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
- Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
- Click Done
- Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
- Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
- It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
- On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
- After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
- The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
- Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point left over from what we have just cleaned.
You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:
Managing Windows Millenium System Restore
or
Windows XP System Restore Guide
Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above
- Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
- From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
- Click once on the Security tab
- Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
- Click once on the Custom Level button.
- Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
- Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
- Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
- Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
- Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
- Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
- When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
- If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
- Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
- Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.
See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:
Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources
- Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
- Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.
For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:
Understanding and Using Firewalls
- Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
- Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers
- Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer
- Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware
- Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Click Start -> Run -> services.msc
Double click on Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) to bring up properties.
Make sure startup type is set to Automatic.
If the service status is Stopped, click Start.
If you get an error or the service won't start, let me know.
Further steps may be required, but let me know if this resolves your firewall access issue.

Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICs) service?
My options are yes and no. I pick yes and get the following message.
Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service.
Then I tried running services.msc. Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) is on the list now, however when I double click it, I get the following message.
Configuration Manager: The specified device instance handle does not correspond to a present device.
-Edit-
I guess I never hit okay after getting the last little error window I mentioned. The Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) window popped up, it is set to automatic, and set to stop. I clicked the button named start, and get the following message.
Could not start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service on Local Computer.
Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified.
