something wrong here
antivirus scan engine diabled
cannot turn computer off, when I do it turns off all adware etc
when cp is turned off manually keyboard stays on
cp slow

have done all your prliminary scans
did Trend, but it just disappears halfway

I have been searching around and have deleted some winlogon entries


this morning I turned on cp and a window came up saying it could not do a system restore to a certain date.
It does it by itself? still cannot close computer, have to do manually, and keyboard still stays on

I wont touch anything now till I hear back from you

Apologies for your long wait.

As an introduction, please note that I am not Superhuman, I do not know everything, but what I do know has taken me years to learn. I am happy to pass on this information to you, but please bear in mind that I am also fallible.

Please note that you should have Administrator rights to perform the fixes. Also note that multiple identity PC’s (family PC’s) present a different problem; please tell me if your PC has more than one individual’s setting, but continue with the fix.

Before we get underway, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix, although please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the red names shown on your screen. Part of the fix may require you to be in Safe Mode, which will not allow you to access the internet, or my instructions! (Click the Options drop down near the upper right of the topic. Select Print this topic.)

You have a Puper infection. Let’s see what we can do.

Please uninstall Ewido from your PC, we will download its replacement, AVGas.

Firstly could you please disable Windows Defender. Open Windows Defender. Click Tools, and then click General Settings. Under Protection options, clear the Use Windows Defender to help protect my computer check box. Then click Save

Also please disable AdWatch Open AdAware SE > AdWatch User Interface > Tools and Preferences. At the bottom of the screen you will see 2 options Active and Automatic. Uncheck both options. You can enable these after resolving your problem.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

A. Please download the 30-day trial version of: AVG Anti Spyware

• Please install, and update AVG Anti-Spyware/Ewido
  
• Load AVGas/Ewido and then click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
  
• After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  
• Please select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  
• Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
  
• Under "Reports"
• Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
• Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
• Close AVGas/Ewido. Do not run it yet.

B. Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:

• Restart your computer
• After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
• Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
• Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:

Safe Mode

C. Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, (right click and choose Extract All) then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool. Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.
The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

D. Clean out your Temporary Internet files. Proceed like this:

• Quit Internet Explorer and quit any instances of Windows Explorer.
• Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.
• On the General tab, click Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files.
• In the Delete Files dialog box, tick the Delete all offline content check box , and then click OK.
• On the General tab, click Delete Cookies under Temporary Internet Files, and then click OK.
• Click on the Programs tab then click the Reset Web Settings button. Click Apply then OK.
• Click OK.

Next Click Start, click Control Panel and then double-click Display. Click on the Desktop tab, then click the Customize Desktop button. Click on the Web tab. Under Web Pages you should see a checked entry called Security info or something similar. If it is there, select that entry and click the Delete button. Click Ok then Apply and Ok.

Empty the Recycle Bin by right-clicking the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop, and then clicking Empty Recycle Bin.

E. Close ALL open Windows / Programmes / Folders.

• In Safe Mode, load AVGas/Ewido and click on the Scanner tab at the top and then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run, so be patient.
  
• AVGas/Ewido will list any infections found on the left hand side. When the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. Ewido will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.
  
• Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again (I suggest the Desktop).

Close AVGas/Ewido and Reboot in Normal Mode.

F. Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #3 - Delete Trusted zone by typing 3 and press Enter

Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the Programme and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

thanks for replying.
before I do any of this I have to tell you that a scan picked up smitfraud beginning november, so i downloaded the tool and followed instructions and ran it
I did post in the unanswered logs yesterday

but it got rid of the protected startups in my hjt but not of the rest
I already have the new ewido/avg and have been running many scans , online scans and others

I still get the restorer page up at every startup, trying to restore to the new date.
then first thing at startup I go to the windows firewall and turn of file and printersharing
and adaware picks up registerchanges everyday, being changed to gogl

thanks for the help.
did hjt and it managed to get rid of the 09, but not the local pages

I have tried many times to delete through hjt but they keep regenerating.
further down is a restore entry which I think is not good either.
also the ones with java and kaspersky in the line.

the hjt seems to be corrupt, I have even tried to uninstall hjt, so that I could install a new one, but it wont let me it says someone or some program is using it, there is one file in hjt, a AWEVLOG.txt which is the problem. it is an empty file, tried deleting, renaming, but no luck so far.

Thanks for the explanation.

I would think that the problem is due to Adwatch being enabled. It's job, put simply, is to stop changes being made to the registry. Try this one more time, I have included the entries you mentioned too, although none of the entries are what I would call malicious.

To disable AdWatch Open AdAware SE > AdWatch User Interface > Tools and Preferences. At the bottom of the screen you will see 2 options Active and Automatic. Uncheck both options. You can enable these after resolving your problem.

Rescan with HijackThis. Close all programmes leaving only HijackThis running. Place a checkmark or tick against the following:

Try this for HJT install.

Click here to download HJTsetup.exe

• Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
• Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
• By default it will install to C:\Program Files\HijackThis.
• Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
• Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
• Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
• At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch HijackThis.
• Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
• Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
• Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
• DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Finally, please do a search and post the path of this file: AWEVLOG.txt

deleted the items
deleted hjt, normally all the files would go with it, I think? but they are still all there

tried to do filepath for awevlog but it does not work and still cannot delete hjt, its an empty notepad file
have to uninstall the old hjt firdt before I can install new one

I am not sure that I understand what you are trying to tell me here.

Your latest HJT log shows that all the entries have been successfully deleted.

You said that this file: AWEVLOG.txt was a problem and needed to be deleted. I can't give you an instruction on how to do that without a file path. If you use search to find the file, you will also have the path. I don't understand what you mean by

tried to do filepath for awevlog but it does not work and still cannot delete hjt, its an empty notepad file

The file belongs to AdWatch and is most likely harmless.

Are you still experiencing any problems?

just did a restert of computer.

I unclicked some items in startup through msconfig, like quicktime and fotodownloader. restarted and ran hjt
and yes the rd items, local pages are back again.

for the AWEVLOG.txt I have done a search by going to start then search
its in C:\HijackThis and its a notepad file in this folder.
still cannot delete this or the whole folder

Hello again

The two R0 entries are harmless, just clutter, but they are being put there by AdWatch, it is in the running processes. Please note that you should not have more than 1 antispyware running, you have both AdWatch and AVGas Guard. I would be inclined to uninstall AdWatch for a while, perhaps until your 30-day free trial of AVGas has expired.

The file that you say is an empty text file within the HJT folder, must be harmless since it is empty, but we can remove it and then you can download HJT over again using the previous instruction. I see nothing untoward in your log, are you having any problems?

Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.

• Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
• Extract avenger.exe to your desktop

Copy ALL THE TEXT contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Now, start The Avenger programme by clicking on its icon on your desktop.

• Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".

• Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
• Click Done
• Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
• Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:

• It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
• Upon reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
• After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
• The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.

5. Please copy & paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log from normal mode, by using Add Reply

What programme is warning you of these attempts to add to the registry?

Run MSCONFIG and enable everything in the startup area. To get to MSCONFIG, click on Start -> Run -> type in MSCONFIG -> click OK

Under the "General" Tab

Ensure "Normal Startup-load all device drivers and services" is checked.

Click Apply->OK->Follow the prompts to Restart

Please post a fresh HJT log, do not at this time proceed with the Avenger fix.

Hi Phil,

thanks for helping, we were on a good run last night, but I had to go .and get some sleep. we are 10 hours ahead of you

adwatch is warning me of the changes in registry.
I did disable it last night but it must startup again after rebooting
now everything is enabled again in startup and everything is so slow.

most of these programs were not downloaded by me and I am not sure if we need them all, maybe you can help me with that later
I certainly dont need them to run all the time
