Seen this one on your site a million times already, but need to show my particular log file.

I have: Win XP Home w/SP2 - Dell - no warranty left (2 yrs old) - IE 6.__

Problems:
1. programs won't open ((win explorer, control panel, search, any "my..." programs (my documents, etc), or recycle bin)) - won't thru task bar or start or desktop
2. IE hijacking (about:blank)
3. "Only the best" pop-ups
4. Dr Watson error with PC freeze
5. floppy drive A: inaccessible

What works:
1. run option through start menu
2. file manipulation through any program "open" dialog (word, excel, run "browse" option thru start menu)
3. cntrl-alt-delete and ending Dr Watson unfreezes PC

Please help...I'M DESPARATE!! I know you've answered this one a few times already :tazz:

, but please help

oh...and i've already downloaded/installed:

hijackthis - latest version updated
aboutbuster.exe - latest version updated
cwshredder.exe
cwserviceremove.reg
adawareSE - latest version updated
FixIefts.exe --- this did remove a .dll problem upon startup I had which is cool

All others I haven't run except for hijackthis.

Please download all items to your desktop first.

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please download and install these programs - don't run them yet!!

Please download and unzip
About:Buster to a folder. Inside the folder is a readme file that has instructions on the use of the program.
AboutBuster MUST be updated before you use it.
Start AboutBuster, click the update button, check for update, drag the box to the side and hit download updates, close the box . Don't run it yet.

Please download and install AD-Aware.
Check Here on how setup and use it - please make sure you update it first.

Download and unzip cwsserviceremove to your desktop. use either link below:

Download CW-Shredder at the link below:

Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

For anyone using Windows XP, 'Search' will not automatically show hidden files even if your folder options settings are set to do that. Do this so you can see hidden files and folders - Click here to download xphidden.zip. Extract xphidden.reg from the zip file and save it to the desktop. When done, double-click the xphidden.reg and when asked to merge say yes.

Here's the fix:

Important Step
1. Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the service called:

Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper ( 11Fßä_#·ºÄÖ`I) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\sdkps.exe" /s

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows. If you don´t find this service listed go ahead with the next steps.

2. Reboot into Safe Mode: Click here if you don't know how to do this.

3. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete once -> Click Task Manager -> Click the Processes tab -> Double-click the Image Name column header to alphabetically sort the processes -> Scroll through the list and look for:

If you find the files, click on them, and then click End Process -> Exit the Task Manager.

4. CLOSE ALL WINDOWS AND BROWSERS Scan with HijackThis and put checks next to all the following,

Then click on "Fix Checked"

5. Using Windows Explorer delete the following files and folders.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\yrhfc.dll<--Delete this file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkiq.dll<--Delete this file

Exit Explorer.

6. Run AboutBuster . This will scan your computer for the bad files and delete them. Save the report (copy and paste into notepad or wordpad and save as a .txt file) and post a copy back here when you are done with all the steps.

7. Scan with AdAware and let it remove any bad files found.

8. Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure all are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Download the ccleaner
I use this Program and is setup like this all boxs are check.
Now run the ccleaner

Clean out all temp files in Mozilla, Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer: Tools/ Internet Options/ General/ Temporary internet files/ Delete Files (NOTE, that this may take very long!). You can also set the memory limit to about 20 MB at the Settings.

Mozilla: Edit/ Options/ Extended/ Cache/ Clear Cache

9. Double click on the cwsserviceremove and when asked to merge say yes.

10. Run CW-Shredder - Hit the FIX button - let it run and fix what it finds.

11. Reboot into normal mode.

12. Download the Hoster from here Press "Restore Original Hosts. and press "OK". Exit Program.

13. Download the Hoster from here Press "Restore Original Hosts. and press "OK". Exit Program.

Please post the logs From both virus scans and HJT.log we will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

As I said earlier, I can't access Window Explorer. How can I access it to show hidden files? Is there a back door?

I did merge the XPhidden.reg though. Since the above was the first step, I won't do more until you advise.

kc -

ran hjt, but could only find 4 of the items you listed...none with "yrhfc.dll". There wasn't a 02 - BHO...sdkiq.dll, but there is a ntfb32.dll - do i delete that one?

did find and delete the 2 .dll files you listed through win explorer in safe mode.

but tried to run ad-aware and got a "database is either corrupted or missing" error. i rebooted and came back here, redownloaded...but got the same error. did notice that the sdkiq.dll came back in my system 32 folder. i deleted it again.

so, i stopped there since i can't run adaware.

ideas?

oh...and when i'm NOT in safe mode, I can run about:buster. my xp home has a user log-in function. the one i'm in now is unaccesible through safe mode (even though they are all admin rights). weird. i downloaded it through the log-in (while in safe mode) that is available (a temp one) and it doesn't work.

but going back and forth between normal/safe mode and rebooting during that process, running about:buster OUT of safe mode will not get the problem fixed, correct?

Welcome to geekstogo!

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

You are running HijackThis from the Desktop; please create a new folder C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe into the new folder

Download CWShredder (there is a link in my signature), unzip it, and save it on the Desktop. Please do not run it yet, though.

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.

Run AboutBuster . This will scan your computer for the bad files and delete them. Save the report (copy and paste into notepad or wordpad and save as a .txt file) and post a copy back here when you are done with all the steps.

Download CW-Shredder at the link below:
CWShredder .
Run CWShredder to fix your CWS problem.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\mrjoc.dll/sp.html#96676
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://www.geekstogo...t=0
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8EDEB261-7C44-2154-53C6-FA3DD5685210} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntfb32.dll

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:
C:\WINDOWS\mrjoc.dll<--Delete this file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\[b]ntfb32.dll[B]<--Delete this file
C:\WINDOWS\[B]sdkps.exe[B]<--Delete this file
Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

Run killbox and click the radio button that says [B]Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the [b]full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.
Let the system reboot.
C:\WINDOWS\mrjoc.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntfb32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\sdkps.exe
End off killbox files

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.
