Hi, im having a few problems with my computer and Im in desperate need of help. The process "svchost.exe" is running on my computer and there are about 6 of them running at the same time. I cant get rid of them. My startup is very slow. It takes atleast 4-5 minutes minimum now. Firefox keeps crashing. Also, whenever I try to play audio files there is this interrupting "beep" about every 15 seconds when ever I try to run mp3 files and movies stored on my hard drive. If I play the music in realplayer its fine. but if i try to play Movies in real player the same interrupting "beep" occurs. And my whole computer is running slower than usual. Please please help!

Hi Torrone,

I can't escape the feeling that you have been trying a lot of things before asking for help.

I notice you have disabled startups with MSConfig. Can you let me know which ones?

The easiest way is to re-enable them, make a new HijackThis log and disable them again.

That way they will show up in the log.
Do not reboot while they are enabled or they will start at boot, which is something we don't want if there really is some malware around.

svchost certainly isn't malware: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314056
and it's also normal that there are several instances.

These problems didn't start right after you nistalled Norton or ZoneAlarm?
(Not sure which firewall came first, but you'll probably need to uninstall the second one)

Regards,

Hey Metallica

Hi Torrone,

I can't escape the feeling that you have been trying a lot of things before asking for help.

Thats true. I tried out a few stuff that were suggested to me in previous times I had problems. So I thought I may have accidently did something wrong and went through a few stuff.

I notice you have disabled startups with MSConfig. Can you let me know which ones?

Yeah I did, hoping to make the start up faster. It didnt work. Heres the list from what I recall:

-qttask
-Lclock
-igfxtray
-hkmcd
-ituneshelper

These didnt look like spyware or anything, but looked around and found that they werent really neccasary at startup so I removed them.

The easiest way is to re-enable them, make a new HijackThis log and disable them again.

I did. The Hijack This Log is below.

That way they will show up in the log.
Do not reboot while they are enabled or they will start at boot, which is something we don't want if there really is some malware around.

Done.

svchost certainly isn't malware: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314056
and it's also normal that there are several instances.

But its eating my system resources. One of them usually is taking up 40+ megs of RAM and the others are around 15-20. Thats what made me worried. Also, because I read on a site that it is registered as the "Neshuta" trojan.

These problems didn't start right after you nistalled Norton or ZoneAlarm?
(Not sure which firewall came first, but you'll probably need to uninstall the second one)

Regards,

Nope. I have Norton, but Ive disabled it and use it only for Virus Scans. Zone Alarm is what i use more regularly. Its always running. Ive had these programs for atleast a year. Norton, Ive had since I got the computer which is about 2 years and a month ago.

Thanks for helping Metallica. Here's the Hijack THis Log:

The svchost processes you have running are all in the System32 folder
Any trojan or virus would have had to replace it or would be running in a different folder.

But you are right that they shouldn't be using so many resources that they slow you down.

So from Norton you only have the AntiVirus?
And the Windows firewall is off?

The startups you disabled can stay away except for:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ccApp] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe"
which is for Norton.

Also noticed Weatherbug. Are you using that or can you uninstall it?

I have the full Norton, but I only use it for Virus Scanning. Windows Firewall is turned off, because of ZoneAlarm.

Weatherbug, I took out a long time ago. I wonder how its still there. It isnt on my Add/Remove Programs list.

You can fix this one then:

O9 - Extra button: WeatherBug - {AF6CABAB-61F9-4f12-A198-B7D41EF1CB52} - C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe (file missing) (HKCU)

Probably got left behind by the uninstaller.

I'm going to ask around, because I suspect your problem to be with a driver.
Just have to figure out how to best look into that.

Can you have a look at the Device Manager in the meantime and see if you spot any question marks or exclamation marks in there.

Rightclick "My Computer" > Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager

Ok. I just did that.

No. Theres no question or exclamation marks in there. I was wondering, if I uninstalled the driver, can i reinstall it again? Because I have Soundmax Digital Audio and apparently its integrated and I cant download any updates on their site either. And it didnt come with a CD so I dont want to take the risk of uninstalling it and then not being able to reinstall it.

You can make a Manual System Restore Point before uninstalling it:
http://bertk.mvps.or...l/createrp.html

That way you can go back to the situation it was before you started.

OK. Before we have your computer turned inside out by the techs.
Can you please uninstall Norton following the instructions here:
http://www.geekstogo...are-t43188.html

Try if it helps. (Please limit any surfing or other risky actions to a minimum while you are not protected)

If it doesn't help re-install it and let me know.

If it does help we'll take it from there.

I just uninstalled it and its the same thing. I am about to re-install it.

Im recalling that this beep started when I installed the second Beta for WMP 11 and/or when I removed Musicmatch Jukebox 10 from my computer. I just remember that it started after these 2 things. Can that have in any way promted this beeping to start?

That sure sounds related.
Don't forget to tell the Techs that when you start a new thread.

I think this will be the best forum for it:
http://www.geekstogo...2003_NT-f5.html

Also include a link to this thread so they can see what we already tried:
