The popups and redirections are sucking all the joy out of using the internet. I use Ad-aware, Spybot & run my Norton Anit-virus regularly, but it just doesn't seem to stop. Here is my Hijack This log from today. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as FindFile.bat and save it on your Desktop.

dir C:\WINDOWS\System32\??rss.exe /a h > files.txt
notepad files.txt

Locate FindFile.bat on your Desktop and double-click on it. It will open Notepad with some text in it. Please post the text here in this thread

A malicious .DLL file is disrupting the LSP chain on your computer. We need to get rid of it.

1. Please download LSPFix from here.
2. Run the LSPFix.exe that you have just finished downloading.
3. Check the I know what I'm doing box.
4. In the Keep box you may see one or more instances of aklsp.dll
5. Select every instance of aklsp.dll and move each one to the Remove box by clicking the >> button.
6. When you are done click Finish>>.

Download a free 14 day trial of ewido from the link below. Install it and start it up. Follow the prompts to upgrade it, then close it down.

Carry out a free online virus scan from the following link. Type in name, for company type anything you like, add email address in relevant boxes.

Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. This may take some time, so go grab a coffee. Once it finds the first issue tick the box for all. Post the log from the scan here for me.

Now scan with HJT and check the following entries if they are there. Some may have been removed by earlier procedures

Unzip it to the Desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Next, reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:

2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, run (double-click) LQfix.bat. You will see a DOS window appear and disappear - that's normal.

Rescan with HJT and check the following

O20 - Winlogon Notify: URL - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hrl0053me.dll

Ensure no windows open except HJT and click fix checked.

Using windows explorer locate and delete the following file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\hrl0053me.dll

Reboot the computer normally, then scan with HijackThis! again and post the new logfile here.

I followed the step but did not find hrl0053me.dll in either the HJT log or with my Windows Explorer search. Here is the current HJT log:

Download L2MFix from one of these two locations:

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts. Then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing Enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening. After a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 or any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

I almost don't want to say it out loud, but the PC is running much, much better. The pop-ups have stopped and now it looks like the re-directions have stopped too. Here is the ewido log:
