I was able to turn My Pictures Slide show off.
Now what??

If the slide show programma was reffering to a wrong folder, that may explain the strang screens (I had my fingers crossed)...

Don't worry, as you know, I won't give up.

There is something very wrong here at a very low level (wish I could see that screen with the funny characters)

I would seriously consider a windows repair at this point since everything we do to fix it seems to crap out moments later

Yeah,.. I do but I was kind of hoping you guys would help me get rid of this mess.

As for the screen with the characters....
Try to imagine an IE page,... now picture the page with nothing in it (blank white page),.. just the blue bar on the top.
Now look up at the blue bar where it says "Geeks to go" on this page,...The characters are all there. Right under that, in the page itself are some more characters. Maybe enough to be a one 7 letter word or less. On the bottom of the page, there's an "ok " tab.
This happens everytime I log off a user name ( not turn off pc).

Should I take a picture of it??

As far as the exe files are concerned,.. Like I said,.. when I apply the exe fix, they work until I start clicking programs and such.
Under my username, which I believe thats where the problem started,.. The icons all appear normal after the fix, but I can't dbl/right click them.
I have never been able to open up IE under my user name.

i dont know if this will help or not but what about runing a system restore in safe mode and then geting the silent runers and such ?

See if you can do this:
Open HijackThis
Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press the button ‘open uninstall manager’
In the list find:
alset
Press ‘delete this entry’.
Close HijackThis and reboot.

See if you can remove the folder:
C:\Program Files\Alset\

In HijackThis
Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press the button ‘open uninstall manager’
Press the button 'save list'. It will open a Notepad file. Place the content of that file here in your answer please.

Copy the text from the box to an empty file.
Save it as ‘export.bat’ to your desktop.
Choose ‘save as all types *.*’

regedit /e c:\policies.txt "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies"

Close Notepad.

Find ‘export.bat’ on your desktop.
Doubleclick the file. It will create a file called ‘policies.txt’ in c:\
Copy the entire text and past it to your reply here in this topic.

I did the export.bat thing,.. but it showed up on my desktop as a non working icon.

I did the exe fix and link fix, and all the icons are working temporarily except the export icon.
I'm mentally exhausted.
I remember we did something similiar before and it cleared up my issues on my laptop,.. hope this works the same.
