anyone else feel free, i have been working on this for about 8 hours today.
there must be a simple common process to go about mounting, or whatever it is called, a cd drive. One that doesnt involve re-installing the whole system.

I'm almost certain the fix I'm working towards is going to work, I just need to find what I'm looking for in the Win98 registry. If anyone knows where to find the keys mentioned above, please feel free to input.
One thing you can try in the meantime, do a search in your registry (use find in the edit menu) for LowerFilters or UpperFilters. This might yield the results I'm looking for faster than me trying to find it on Google.

Ok, per bdlt, try going to http://www.geekstogo...tion=show&id=15 and using this patch to fix your problem. Let me know how this works out for you.
Also, fyi to anyone who cares, "Random Guy" opened a thread in this forum detailing his problem which was somewhat unrelated to the real problem at hand here with worcesteradam.

Ok, the UpperFilters you found are for a different device so we will leave that entry alone. Try the link I put in my post above and let me know if it helps.

well it was a good try but i hasnt made the slightest bit of difference.
i am so confused.
what i want to know is, when windows is installed, what bits are needed for a cd-drive to be readable and where do they go?
there can be that many?
excluding any individual drivers, what software is needed, just for a cd to be recognised, so i can check if it is missing.
the computer is still behaving like cds have never been invented

worcesteradam,
Go to http://www.computing...rum/165577.html and try some of the fixes they mention there. I'll continue to look for more just in case, so please let me know if you get it fixed.

yea ill let you know, thanks for being so helpfull.
i was diggin around inside the pc, i unplugged my hard drive and the slave cd drive and then plugged em back in. Caused a bit of a problem but eventually the computer recognised the hard drive again.
still other problems though, the hard drive is now causing a conflict.
Interrupt Request 15 used by:
IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
Interrupt Request 15 used by:
Adaptec AIC-7850 PCI SCSI Controller
System properties/Performance
File System - Some drives are using MSDOS capatability (C:/)
Virtual Memory - MS Dos capatability Mode
Im not sure how to change them, but dont wanna get sidetracked.
where do i get new drivers from just in case? what info do i need to know.
here is a list of my system conflicts
may be relevant somehow.

I'm not entirely familiar with the compatibility mode myself, can you post a screenshot of the Performance page for me please?

Ok, I know this is starting to be a PITA but please bear with me. I need you to open the following files and copy and paste their contents into a reply to this.
c:\config.sys

Thanks.
