This horrid program is giving me grief!
I just can't seem to get rid of it

I've already tried:

- Norton/Symantec's "BetterInternet" Removal tool
- Scanning with Norton Antivirus (Yes, my definitions are updated)
- Spybot S&D

All appear to get rid of it, but once I turn my computer back on it's back.
I need a more permanent way to destroy this cursed thing.

I'm not sure if this is related but my Windows folder contains numerous "$NtUninstall...$" folders.
There are also numerous log files in there along the lines of "KB828741.log". I can post the contents of this log file should you require it.
Also possibly related is "AuroraHandler.dll" which resides in my Windows folder and claims to be from the abetterinternet.com.

Ok, download L2MFix from

and Save the file to your Desktop; double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your Desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing Enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, Notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into your next post here. Do a new scan with HijackThis!, and post the new log as well.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.
From the l2mfix folder on your Desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing Enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, Notepad will
open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new Hijackthis log.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Please download the Ewido Security Suite (trial version) from here :

http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ ...and install it. Update to the newest definitions. Do not run this yet

Since this tool runs best in safe mode, we are going to go that way. Here is a link if your not sure how to get there.

Reboot your computer in safe mode

Please run the ewido scan reboot back to normal mode and send me the results and a new hijack log please.

Well things are looking a whole lot better than when you pulled in here

Now we go to work with hijack this.

Fire up hijack this, press scan only and place checks next to these.

Close all browsers and click fix on hijack this.

Then click on Start, then on Run and type this in the box :

services.msc

and hit "Enter". Scroll down the list until you find this Service :

System Startup Service

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows.

After completing this please reboot and send me a new hijack log please.

How are things running any better?

Thanks for all the help
Things are noticeably smoother and my computer isn't lagging as badly as before.

Although there are some things i'm unsure of:

- Nail.exe still remains in my Windows folder
- A file from DirectRevenue (Aurora) also resides in my windows folder - "zjgpfbydkl.exe"
- My Windows folder contains numerous hidden folders named "$NtUninstallKB828741$" and numerous logfiles named "KB828741.log"

Are any of these a potential problem, and can/should I remove them?


EDIT: More stuff found in my System32 folder:
- "StopSpyware.ico" & "PartyPoker.ico"
Sometimes new icons are created on my desktop "Play Poker" and "Stop Spyware". Has this been fixed and is it ok to remove these icons?

EDIT2: MS Antispyware still detects "Transponder.AbetterInternet.Aurora.Adware" on my computer

Currently in process of full system scan and it also picked up: "NeededWare.C Trojan Downloader"
