i just downloaded the new msn mesenger and now i realize that it cant connect...it alwasy brings up this error messeage(2st pic) and then whne i troubleshoot...its says this(3rd pic) and then when i try to repair ..it says this(1st pic)....ive checked the firewall(windows default one(sp2)) and its allowed msn messenger 7.5..i even tryied disabling it and still nothing..plz help me ASAP

you probably would know..but...in IE click on tools > internet options > lan settings...and see if there is anything down there where it says proxy server

both options are checked...in advanded there is a number and below that their are a few "exceptions"....

ps. i tried connecting after i disabled the proxy..but same problem occured(i didnt restart)

i had a problem with my msn and i looked around the net and found this


WINDOWS 98, ME

1) Click Start > Run
2) Type: %windir% and press enter.
3) Open Application Data and then the Microsoft folder.
4) Right-click the MSN Messenger folder and delete it.

Now restart MSN Messenger and try to sign in again...


WINDOWS 2000, XP

1) Click Start > Run
2) Type: %appdata%\Microsoft and press enter.
3) Right-click the MSN Messenger folder and delete it.

Now restart MSN Messenger and try to sign in again...


still not working try these things:

FIXES
VERY FIRST ONE

Click Start, then Run, and enter the following:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
then click OK
(DONT FORGET THE "SPACE" BETWEEN regsvr32 and softpub.dll)


1. The date on your computer needs to be set properly -- double click the clock verify that the time and date are set.

2. If your password information is not saved, verify that you are typing it in with the correct case (uppercase or lowercase).

3. Change your password @ http://memberservice...mberservice.srf
to something smaller (under 10-12 characters), then try signing in again.

4. If you use a firewall (like ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security etc. ),
it's possible that Messenger doesn't have the correct rights to access the Internet, especially since you upgraded. You may need to re/add Messenger to the allowed list of programs in your firewall if this is the case.

5. If you disabled your firewall in the past, it still may be blocking
Messenger -- try restarting it and see if that helps the situation. You also might try uninstalling an installed firewall, to verify that it isn't causing a problem (even if it is disabled).

6. Clear your IE cache and cookies -- open Internet Explorer, click the
Tools menu, then Internet Options, then click the Delete Files button, and when that's complete click the Delete Cookies button.

7. Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet Explorer, click the
Tools menu, then Internet Options, then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and verify that "Check for server certificate revocation" is unchecked. Also verify that 'Use SSL
2.0' and Use SSL 3.0' is checked, then click OK.

8. On the "Tools" menu in Internet Explorer, click "Internet Options" then click on "Connections" then click on "settings" and make sure all the 3 check boxes are UNTICKED then click OK.

9. Click Start, then Run, then type the following:

ipconfig /flushdns
(don't forget the "SPACE" between ipconfig and /flushdns)

10. Disable any Ad blockers and the like especially on the various toolbars etc.

11. Disable any program that has "Remove refferal commands".

I'm also having trouble with MSN Messenger 7.5. I keep getting the message that the service is temporarily unavailable, however, I signed up for another passport and I can log on just fine with that one. I generally use Trillian, but I can't connect to MSN through that either with my main passport. Yet it works fine with the new one I created. I even tried changing the password for my main account, but that didn't make a difference.

I've tried several of the suggestions below and it still isn't working. Everything was working fine yesterday until I uninstalled Norton Internet Security and installed McAfee. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both Trillian and messenger, I've made sure they have access through the McAfee programs. Nothing is working.

Usually even when I couldn't log into messenger through the program itself, I could still access it through Trillian.

Any ideas??
