Hello there, I'm working on a laptop right now with Windows XP Service Pack 2. I cannot get out on the internet via IE etc with it. I can have programs like Ad-aware, Ewido, AVG etc d/l updates so that is good. Most of the time though the computer will just turn off when I am running one of the scans. Spybot does it the most and also in safemode. I have got this error a few times also.

szAppName: winlogon.exe
szAppVer: 0.0.0.0
szModName: crypt32.dll
szModVer: 5.131.2600.2180

Here is a HJT log also.

Hi sosa21! :tazz:

Your log looks clean. I don't see anything in it that would indicate that malware is causing your problems. Does Ewido or AVG find anything before your computer shuts down?

Does your cooling fan kick on like it should when the scan is running?

AVG finds 0 viruses, same as E-trust. Ewido is clean. Cooling fan kicks on pretty loud during scans. Another problem is if I choose shutdown, it will restart. If I choose restart, it will shutdown lol. I've rean every scan I can think of. IE won't work still. Haven't had a chance to try firefox yet.

Just an update, laptop was just sitting here, fan running loud and it just shut off. Do you think it is a cooling issue? Any program I can run to monitor it?

I'd say it's a definite possibility that it's a cooling issue. I know there's software that you can run to monitor the temp, but I would start a new thread here and let the hardware guys take a look.
