Thanks for the impressive advice so far .....

I have studiously followed the advice to newbies and have run Adaware, Spybot, Trojan Hunter, CW Shredder and Ewido.

A number of infections were found and have been removed. I am however left with the following issues:

1) Pokapoka kept reappearing in memory and the registry (even after I stop the process in task manager)
2) Internet explorer is painfully slow and on a number of occasions times out.
3) My virus software (Norton) has been disabled and removed from my system. After downloading (and paying for) new software, the software installation process aborts.
4) I am not sure if I got all the buggers off my system

The result of the Hijack scan is attached below. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Finally any tips how to avoid this in the future would be pretty cool

Many thanks

Download ewido security suite here: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install and update it. Don't let it scan yet!!

There are quite a few programs available that offer protection features to help keep a computer from getting infected. While this is normally a helpful feature, it can keep a victim from making the changes necessary to clean their comptuer. Please read the following and uninstall or disable those that apply to your machine.

These programs need to be uninstalled

AdWatch

These programs can just be disabled

Microsoft Antispyware
TeaTimer
SpySweeper
Win Patrol
Spyware Guard
PSGuard
Pestpatrol
Regrun
Diamonds Process controller

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows\mc-58-12-0000119.exe
C:\WINNT\nfmpxtc.exe

reboot into safe mode. open Ewido Security Suite
Click on scanner

* Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
* When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
* Save the report to your desktop

If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged), select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections". If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.

Close Ewido

* Reboot your system back to normal mode.

Please download CleanUp! - Download - HomePage
Install and run. Click on the button labeled CleanUp!.

When it finishes it will prompt you to restart Windows - there will be one or two files it cannot delete when Windows is running - however, they will be deleted next time Windows starts up.

Reboot and post a new log.

I followed all advice and the post is attached below

Just a few notes (may be relevant to concluding on the post)

There was no lines listed below to delete in HiJackThis:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nfmpxtc] C:\WINNT\nfmpxtc.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [services32] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows\mc-58-12-0000119.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

In addition, I could not find the file nfmpxtc.exe.
and and mc-58-12-0000119.exe was in a different folder to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows\

Do you still have Norton? Is it updated? Please run it again, along with Ewido. It appears you have a trojan dropper.

Also, you may want to try:

http://www.kaspersky...apter=154373188

Please copy the results for me as well as a silent runners log.

Download Silent Runners
Unzip it to a permanent folder.
Start SilentRunners.vbs
When your antivirus is giving an alert, do not block this. Allow the script.
Copy and paste the content of the txtfile you get afterwards in your next reply.

The Silent runners log is attched below.

Kaspersky detected a TRjan dropper that I deleted. This does not seem to have stopped the problem.

In addition ot the popups descibed above, Kapersky is blocking a "Lovesan" attack

Please download this file:
http://www.sysintern...kitrevealer.zip
Unzip it to it own folder or to your desktop.
Run RootkitRevealer.exe and scan your system. When the scan is complete click on File, Save, and save the log file. Copy and paste the log file here.

Download rkfiles.zip
Unzip the contents to a permanent folder.

Reboot in Safe mode.

Doubleclick rkfiles.bat
It will scan for a while, so please be patient.
Wait till the DOS window closes and reboot back to normal mode.

Post the contents of C:\log.txt in your next reply.

Launch Killbox & select the following options:

* delete on Reboot

Select all the filenames below & then right-click & select Copy

* C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ride5.0.exe

* Go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard
* Click the RED X button.
* Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
* Click Yes at the 'Pending Operations prompt'.

Please download CleanUp! - Download - HomePage
Install and run. Click on the button labeled CleanUp!.

When it finishes it will prompt you to restart Windows - there will be one or two files it cannot delete when Windows is running - however, they will be deleted next time Windows starts up.

Please run rootkit and rkfiles again and post the logs. :tazz:

Download L2mfix from one of these two
locations:

<http://www.atribune....ads/l2mfix.exe>
<http://www.downloads...org/l2mfix.exe>

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: "C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer.
After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

If after the reboot the desktop icons dont dissappear or the log does not pop up then in the l2mfix folder double click the second.bat file to continue with the fix.

Please run hijack this and put a checkmark next to this one:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [internat.exe] internat.exe Reboot and

Please find this file and delete it:

C:\WINNT\system32\eonrd.dll"
