installing now OS on old compaq, wiped drive wont install now OS

OS: xp and windows 98



I have an old compaq 5283 I wiped the drive and now want to install a new OS XP if I can. Please let me know where i can get the information I need to do this.

Windows XP requires at least 256MB RAM.
I looked on google and it says that that compaq only has 128MB standard.

How much RAM do you have?
I don't think XP can run on that machine to be quite honest, and if it will it will be really bumpy.
