May I please get some help also..I am experiencing the same dilemna. I can't get rid of this "aaawebsearch" to save my neck! I'am not an expert so please be patient with my inexperience and most definitely have some pity on me...I have spent the last 4 hours trying to fix this problem..but to no avail. I downloaded the hijack and I will post the log..please tell me where do I go from here??!!! Thanks in advance!

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).

now you need to use ad-aware please open the program
First, in the main window, look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files.

Next, we need to configure Ad-aware for a full scan.

-> Click on the Gear icon (second from the left) to access the preferences/settings window

1. In the General window make sure the following are selected:

Automatically save log-file
Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
Safe Mode (always request confirmation)

2. Click on the Scanning button on the left and select :

Scan Within Archives
Scan Active Processes
Scan Registry
Deep Scan Registry
Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
Scan my Hosts file
Under Click here to select drives + folders, choose:
All of your hard drives

-> Click on the Advanced button on the left and select:

Include additional process information
Include additional file information
Include environment information
Include additional object details

-> Click the Tweak button and select:

Under the Scanning Engine:
- Unload recognized processes during scanning
- Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile
- Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile
Under the Cleaning Engine:
- Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

-> Click on Proceed to save the settings.

-> Click Start and on the next screen choose Activate in-depth Scan at the bottom of the page and then choose:

Use Custom Scanning Options

-> Click Next and Ad-aware will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected.

-> Save the log file when it asks and then click Finish

-> When finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose Select All from the drop down menu and click Next).

Doubleclick "My Computer"
Doubleclick the icon for the C: drive
Doubleclick the WINDOWS folder
Doubleclick the System32 folder
Among the files in that folder find ??plorer.exe
As I said before only the one with the actual Question marks in it's name
Rightclick that file, press Shift and choose Delete from the menu
Confirm you want to remove it.

Your log looks fine now. :tazz:

OK I did do that ...I thought perhaps I was missing something. I still didn't find it though...it's the needle in the haystack. I'll keep searching and maybe I'll get lucky. Just out of curiousity what are the repurcussions if I don't delete that one file. I imagine my problems will persist !!?? I'll be back. Thanks!!!!!

Alrighty now...I can't find it anywhere. I've searched. Could it be that it's no longer there?? I don't know if you need this but here's a new log.

The important part is that it is no longer running. :tazz:

If you can't find it, you can't accidentily doubleclick it either.

If in the future some scanner (Norton for example) suddenly comes up with it, you'll know where it came from. Other then that there are no repurcussions.

The part below is only to increase the speed. So completely optional.
Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:
