Welcome mo23:

After reviewing your log I see a few items that require our attention. Please print out the instructions here (or save it in Notepad) so that you can follow along more easily.

1. You need an AntiVirus Program or you will continue to get infected! Please pick between - AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition or Anti-Vir. An anti-virus program is a must have with any computer.

Download/Install/update the selected Anti-virus program as required and run a full scan.

Restart you computer.

2. Open Ewido and do an update.
  • From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")

DO NOT run a scan. We will run it in safe mode.

3. Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
If you are having problems, additional instructions on how to do this can be found here: How to start Windows in Safe mode.

4. Now open Ewido and do a scan of your system.
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Restart your computer.

Please reply to this post with a new HiJackThis log and the report from the Ewido Scan.

Thanks,

Mo23:

Don't worry Mo23, we will get you cleaned up. Sometimes it takes a little more effort with some logs, but yours doesn't look too bad. However, you do have a major infection that should have been removed when you ran Ewido in safe mode. It is still showing in this log, but it looks like the HJT scan was done in safe mode before you restarted your computer. I didn't mean for you to install two virus protection programs. Having two Anti-virus programs running from start-up can actually cause other issues. Not a problem, we will take care of it in my instructions below. :tazz:

Let's get started....

After reviewing your log I see a few items that require our attention. Please print out the instructions here (or save it in Notepad) so that you can follow along more easily.

1. Please UNINSTALL the following program through the ADD/REMOVE feature of your Control Panel:(To make it easier for you to decide, I use AVG Free Edition) :)

AVG Free Edition or Anti Vir

Restart your computer.

2. Please download the free Ad-Aware SE) and install it. If you already have Ad-Aware SE, please configure it as indicated below. If you have a previous version of Ad-Aware, please uninstall your current version and install the newest version SE 1.06.

a.) Run Ad-Aware, and click Check for updates now.

b.) Select Configurations (click the Gear wheel at the top) as follows:
  • General Button > Safety & Settings: Check (Green) all three.
  • Tweak Button > Cleaning Engine > UNcheck "Always try to unload modules before deletion".
Click Proceed.
c.) To start the scan, Click > "Scan Now" at left
  • Deselect "Search for negligible risk entries" as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
  • Select "Search for low-risk threats"
  • Select "Perform full system scan"
  • Click Next
d.) When the scan has completed, select Next.
  • In the Scanning Results window, select the "Critical Objects" tab.
  • Right-click on the screen and choose "Select all objects"
  • Click Next to remove the infections found, and click OK to the prompt.
  • Restart the computer.

3. Update and do a full scan with Spybot- S&D, remove all items found. Reboot after you have completed this step. If you do not already have SpyBot- S&D please follow the steps below:
Please download Spybot-S&D from here:
http://www.majorgeek...ad.php?det=2471
Install Spybot-S&D and run it. Select "Search for updates" and then select all available updates. Click on the drop-down box in the top center to choose a download location nearest to you. Then click "Download updates". When all updates have downloaded, close Spybot-S&D, and then run it again. Click on "Check for problems". When the scan has finished, select any entries listed in red and click "Fix selected problems". Then please restart your computer again.

4. Open Ewido and do an update.
  • From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")

DO NOT run a scan. We will run it in safe mode.

5.Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:

O2 - BHO: wb - {55BE9F0D-6CAF-4c3e-B125-5A13A8C9D0EC} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\nse1CA.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsync] C:\WINDOWS\System32\dlpkxs.exe reg_run

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

7. Please enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:
  • Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
  • Double-click on the My Computer icon.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • After the new window appears select the View tab.
  • Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
  • Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
  • Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
  • Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.
  • Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

8. Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them if still present:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\nse1CA.dll <==file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\dlpkxs.exe
<==file

9. Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
Let it scan your system for files to remove.
Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
Press OK to remove them.

After your computer is restarted, please reply to this post with a new HiJackThis log and the report from the Ewido Scan.

Thanks,

:woot:

Looks a little better, there are a couple of new items showing....

After reviewing your log I see a few items that require our attention. Please print out the instructions here (or save it in Notepad) so that you can follow along more easily.

4. Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
Let it scan your system for files to remove.
Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
Press OK to remove them.

Restart your computer.

5. Please do an online virus scan with Panda ActiveScan Here. You need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
  • Once you get to the Panda site, scroll down a bit and click on Scan your PC
  • A new window will appear; click on Check Now!
  • A new window will appear; fill in the boxes (Country, State, email addy)
  • Click on Scan Now! >
If you have never used ActiveScan before, you will be prompted to install an ActiveX control (asinst.cab) : click on Install. Panda will install the component, and then install the latest signature files.
  • From "Select a device to scan...", choose "My Computer"
  • Allow the scan to run. It'll take a while.
  • When complete, click on "See Report", and then on "Save report"; save it to a convenient location.
  • I will need you to post that report in your next reply; simply open the text file, then copy/paste the content here.
Restart your computer.

Please reply to this post with a new HiJackThis log and the scan log from the Panda Active Scan.

Thanks,

mo23: Okay, your log looks good. When you are all clean, I will give you my "Clean-up and Prevention speech."
We are almost there...

Are you getting any pop-ups? Are things running a little better?

The Panda scan had couple of items showing:

Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

C:\Documents and Settings\Mo\Start Menu\Programs\AdDestroyer <==folder

I wasn't 100% sure that you should remove this run C:\PROGRAM FILES\System Files <==folder
Your scan showed that it was containing -Adware:adware/consumeralertsystem. Could you check that folder to see if there is ANYTHING in the folder.
If there is, please let me know the names of the files.(unless there are too many to copy down). If the folder is empty, delete it.

Please reply to this post with a new HiJackThis log. Also, include what you found in the folder mentioned above.

Thanks.

mo23:

Log looks clean...great job! :tazz:

First, let's reset your hidden/system files and folders. System files are hidden for a reason and we don't want to have them openly available and susceptible to accidental deletion.
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading UNSELECT Show hidden files and folders.
  • CHECK the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend the following:

Detection and Removal Programs:

You already have 2 good Anti-spyware detection programs -SpyBot, and Ad-Aware. It is important that all of these programs are updated, and you run full system scans on a regular basis.

Please see the following tutorials below:

How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware
Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

Prevention Programs:

I recommend the following programs to help prevent an infection:

Spywareblaster - Helps prevent spyware from being installed.
Please see the following tutorial - Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware, Hijackers, and Malware.

Sygate or ZoneLabs - You don't have a firewall installed. You should install one to help protect against future problems. A firewall is definitely a must have. I recommend that you install one of the programs suggested.

Other necessary Programs and steps:

Anti-virus program - In this topic we installed AVG Free Edition. It is important that this program is updated, and you run a full system scan on a regular basis.

More Secure Browser - Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, and/or Opera.

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - If you are a Windows users you must visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This site is a Microsoft site that will scan your computer for any patches or updates that are missing from your computer. It will then provide a list of items that it can download and install for you. This will ensure your computer has all of the latest security updates available installed on your computer and is secure from any known security holes.

Please read the following:

Reply once more that you understand these recommendations, and confirm that there are no remaining issues.

I can not thank you enough for all your effort. I have to say I feel like such a leech, I wish there was someway I could contribute to the site. If there is already a link or section for that plz direct me.

anyway, thanks for everything, and I really wish you the best :tazz:
