Hello andrew2345,

I think you have been here before. Seem to remember guiding you to the self help section back in October.

You do need to go there first. It may be that yours is not a malware problem but we won't know that until we have a look.

You need to go there before you come here.Posted Image

If you read the thread there you will see step by step instructions to help fix your problem.

After that if your machine still has problems you can come back here with your HijackThis log and MBAM report.

The link below will take you there.

http://www.geekstogo...-Log-t2852.html

Regards
emeraldnzl

PS: If you find you don't understand something in the Self Help section come back and tell me about it in this thread.

Hello andrew2345,

  • Please download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here.
  • It is important that it is saved to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)
Note: Unless otherwise instructed always post the logs in the forum. If reports don't fit on one post. It might be necessary to break the logs up to get them on the forum. Just use as many posts as you need, that's fine. :)

I see you have ZoneLabs firewall together with Norton Symantec Anti-virus and Internet Security. Under normal conditions this would result in conflict with slow computer performance, error messages, crashes of the programs or other types of failure. You would very likely end up with little or no protection.

However I also see that some of the Norton Symantec activities are not working. This could be because Norton is no-longer current or that it has been corrupted in some way or that it has been partially uninstalled for some reason.

Question: Can you tell me what has happened there?

Now

Your Java is out of date, older versions are vunerable to attack.

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
  • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.
Step 2

Your Adobe Acrobat Reader is out of date. Older versions are vunerable to attack.

Please go to the link below to update.

Kaspersky on line scanner is very thorough. It can take a long time and for periods may seem not to be working. Just be patient and let it do its job.

Kaspersky works with Internet Explorer and Firefox 3.

Go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

Note: you will need to turn off your security programs to allow Kaspersky to do its job.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
Copy and paste that information in your next post.

So when you return please post
  • Kaspersky scan results
  • tell me about you anti-virus and firewall
  • also please tell me how your computer is performing now

If it's too big to attach you may have to Zip it and upload.

How To Zip a file or folder in XP
  • Select the file or folder you want to compress
  • Right click and choose Send to
  • Slide Right and choose Compressed (zipped) folder
  • Allow the file or folder to compress
  • You should now see an icon with the same name plus a Zip (it may even have a zipper on the folder)
  • This is the compressed file that you may upload here
Step 2

To attach a file, do the following:

* Click Add Reply
* Under the reply panel is the Attachments Editor
* Browse to find the attachment file you want to upload, highlight the file by clicking once on it, then click the green Upload button
* Once it has uploaded, click the Manage Current Attachments drop down box
* On the left you will see a icon like a letter with a little green cross on it. Please click on that and it should upload to the thread.

Hello andrew2345,

All those Kaspersky found are in Symantec Quarantine and not dangerous.

I think your machine is clean.

Hopefully this instruction will work with your version of Norton Symantec to remove those ones in quarantine .

How to delete a quarantined file if it is not needed:
  • Start Norton AntiVirus. If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then start that program and click Norton AntiVirus.
  • In the left pane, click Reports.
  • Click View Norton Quarantined and Restore.
  • In the left pane, select the type of risk that you want to remove.
  • In the right pane, select the files that you want to remove.
  • Click Delete Item.
  • When you see the message "Warning! Are you sure that you want to remove this item from Quarantine," click Yes.
  • Close the Quarantine window, and then exit Norton AntiVirus.
Now

The music files sound problem is probably best dealt with in the tech forum but before you go there lets run one utility which at least might repair a few things.

Please run chkdsk.

Go to Windows XP chkdsk for some helpful instructions.

After you have carried out those two things come back here and tell me if there has been any change in your machine.

We will remove the tools that we have been using in the next post.

Yep, they are the same thing.

Unfortunately though there are a whole lot of versions. I think I got the right one for you but if you find a problem let me know. :)

Hi andrew2345,

Can you click in that Quarantine panel. Just to put the cursor there and go ctrl A. If I am not mistaken it should highlight all those items in quarantine. Then hit Delete. Hopefully that will get rid of them.

Come back and tell me how you got on. :)
