hi thanks for the reply and info

on ipconfig/all my dchp says yes but is coming up with ip address 169.x.x.x

also when i use static ip i can connect to the router and the router recognises it but it wont connect to the network drives

and ideally i would like to use the auto config option as this was used before but then one day it just wouldnt connect.

Verify that the DHCP server is enabled in your router. Also verify that the DHCP scope allows the number of DHCP clients you have. Restart the router to flush the DHCP table and try again.

Also sounds possible that you have a software firewall installed on the computer that might be preventing certain access. Disable any software firewall you may have and try again. If that doesn't do the trick, you might also try uninstalling the software firewall, simply disabling may not be enough as there may be a configuration issue.
