That's the final page of a 14 page review on the SLi 280's... I'll quote from it as part of my proof to back up the reason that I said, "The nVidia however has plenty of OC potential. It's simply better quality. End of debate."
"Money wise high-end SLI and 3-way SLI doesn't make much sense, and it never will. It's bragging rights, and only for very few of you with a 30" monitor actually a wish. See, the GeForce GTX 280 by itself already is a power house."
- By itself it is very, very powerful. But if you SLi it, then it is not only powerful, but it is the most powerful. Of course, you'll only truly benefit from SLi if you're using the kind of monitor that you are, a 46" as you stated... Which is going to make that 4870x2 SCREAM and burn so hot and loud it may annoy you at times.
On Page 13 of the review, they show that running Crysis on 2560x1600 resolution...
Crysis, for those of you who don't know, is possibly the most GPU intensive game, "I wanted to close the gaming 3-way SLI test with the one game that is just not playable at "Very High" image quality settings. I think the title of the game, matches the average framerate that people get once they want a little more eye-candy .. it's a Crysis."

They achieve 81, 54, and 39 framerates at 2560x1600 Resolution with medium settings, with Tri-SLi, Dual-SLi, and Single-card 280 respectively.
When they raise the settings to max, they achieve 38, 27, and 18 respectively to the Tri/Dual/Single card configurations.
Want to know how the 4870x2 compares? First of all, look at its Idle temperature, when not under load... http://forums.extrem...mp;d=1218936590 82 degrees...
You can see here that a single 280 has a higher average than even crossfired 4870's and the (unreleased) R700.

There's my proof, that's why I said "end of debate," in a previous thread, I wasn't being rude, I was just stating common knowledge, a single GTX 280 is the best single-gpu on the planet, and 2x GTX 280's are the best dual-gpu's on the planet, and 3x GTX 280's are the best tri-gpu's on the planet... I'm not going to say "end of debate," again, I'll just show you more proof.
@ 1900 resolution and max settings, the 4870x2 scores an average of 56 FPS with NO AA.

Keep in mind that the 4870x2 is running much hotter, much louder, and is 2 GPU's fused together, because they couldn't make a single GPU to beat the 280 at this time.
