problems with cd drive please help

ive had this problem for nearly a year now. One day my cdrom drive starting stuffing up, windows would not detect it, reset the computer a few times and it was fixed. Then things starting getting worse the cd bay would not even open, so i looked for help on the net and found this thing on the registry saying to delete this values so i did that, and it worked!. but now windows does not detect it and when i press the button it won't open. im running windows xp home.

does anyone no anyway to fix this?

Hi and welcome to Geeks to Go. You could try the cd gone patch.
I found a page that has the cd gone patch. To to http://www.aumha.org/regfiles.php
and look for:
The popular CDGONE patch. CD drives may vanish in Windows Explorer, Device Manager, etc. if a third-party CD-burning package has been uninstalled and Registry references for some code modules aren’t removed successfully. This patch and a reboot usually will restore the missing drives. Any third party package still required will then have to be re-installed.
