Your safe mode choice isn't the problem, but I honestly don't know what is.

There has been a new version of the Smitfraudfix released so I want you to go ahead and delete the old files and folders then downlopad the new version and try running it. Also run AVG-Antispyware again.

I'm going to go ahead and post all the directions for you here again:

* Click here to download SmitfraudFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Unzip (extract) the contents of SmitfraudFix.zip to a new SmitfraudFix folder on your desktop.
  • Don't do anything with it yet. You'll run it later in safe mode.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm

* Update AVG Anti-Spyware
  • On the main screen click on the "Update now" link and the update should begin immediately.
    • If the update does not begin, select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • When the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
  • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
  • If you cannot download the updates, update manuallly according to the directions here.
  • If you do the manual update, look under "Full database" and click the "Download now" button.
  • DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe mode.

* Click here for info on how to boot to safe mode if you don't already know how.

* Now copy these instructions to notepad and save them to your desktop. You will need them to refer to.

* Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:

* Run AVG Anti-Spyware:
  • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • It will then begin the scanning process, be patient it may take a while for the scan to complete.
  • When the scan is complete, you must select an action.
  • Select "Apply all actions"
  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen
  • Save the report as a text file and save it to your desktop.
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware.

* Run the SmitfraudFix:
  • Open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click the smitfraudfix.cmd file.
  • Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete the infected files.
  • You will receive this prompt:
    • "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"
  • Answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" and it will begin cleaning the infection.
  • Next the tool will check to see if wininet.dll is infected.
  • You may be prompted to replace the infected wininet.dll file if it is found.
  • Answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".
  • The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process.
  • If it doesn't restart your computer automatically when it is finished, restart it back to Windows normally yourself.
  • A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report into your next reply to this thread along with a new Hijack This log.
  • If the report doesn't open after you restart back to Windows normally, the report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually C:\rapport.txt.

Note: If the Smitfraudfix still doesn't run the fix as it should, I want you to try running it in Windows normally, not in safe mode and see if it runs the fix as it should then.

I tried it again with the new version and no change.
The popups are getting out of control now. My entire bottom toolbar starts flashing and I get sent to that stupid winantvirus 2006 website and all kinds of other crappy sites.
I don’t know what to do. AVG cleaned 82 more cookies and one trojan down-loader off my computer since yesterday. Trend micro anti-virus in my humble opinion is not worth the money I paid for it.

I may just reinstall the O.S. and start over.
Do you have any suggestions on what to load to prevent this from ever happening again other than using knoppix?

Is there any way to extract the the files manualy?

We are going to try a different removal method, but before we do that please do this:

* Download WinPFind
  • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
  • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
  • Dont do anything with it yet!

* Click here for info on how to boot to safe mode if you don't already know how.

Reboot into Safe Mode

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
  • Select " Run Add ONs" and then select ALL the options in the box below it, Press Apply
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient and let it complete.

Reboot back to Normal Mode!

  • Go to the WinPFind folder
  • Locate WinPFind.txt
  • Attach the WinPFind.txt to your next post here please.
  • Don't try to copy and p[aste it. It will be too long for one post.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
  • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
  • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
  • Paste the text that you copied to clipboard from the quote box above into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
  • Click Done
  • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Come back here to this thread. Copy and paste the contents of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log .

*** Before you come back here and post the new Hijack This log and the c:\avenger.txt file, please do this as well:

* Click here to download Dr.Web CureIt and save it to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found: IPB Image
  • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
    IPB Image
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, come back here and post the following logs:
  • A new Hijack This log
  • The contents of the DrWeb report
  • The contents of the c:\avenger.txt file
Go to the top of the page

No need to be concerned about those two missing file messages. Those are two of the files we just deleted with Avenger. We are going to remove the registry entries that point to those iles in the directions that follow. That will take care of those messages.

* Cpy these instructions to notepad and save them to your desktop. You will need them to refer to. Follow them in the exact order as given.

* I am attaching a fix.zip file to this post. Download it and save it to your desktop. Unzip it to extract the fix.reg file it contains.

* Click here to download ATF Cleaner by Atribune and save it to your desktop.

* Click Here and download Killbox and save it to your desktop.

* Click Start > Run > and type in:

services.msc

Click OK.

In the services window find Network Monitor.
Rightclick and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK. Exit the Services utility.

Note: You may get an error here when trying to access the properties of the service. If you do get an error, just select the service and look there in the top left of the main service window and click "Stop" to stop the service. If that gives an error or it is already stopped, just skip this step and proceed with the rest.

* Doubleclick on the fix.reg file to add it to the registry. Answer yes to confirm the merge.

* Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall Registry Cleaner Trial if it is there.

* Run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close ALL windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E5239234-4B08-4ED5-9929-99B25A46D9D4} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssqpo.dll (file missing)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CTDrive] rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\drvmog.dll,startup

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lbmpmmc.dll] C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lbmpmmc.dll,ksfzzdg

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Registry Cleaner] "C:\Program Files\Registry Cleaner Trial\Regclean.exe" -startminimize

* Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:

* Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.
  • Put a tick by Standard File Kill.
  • In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste the following line:

    C:\Program Files\Registry Cleaner Trial

  • Click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle.
  • It will ask for confimation to delete the file.
  • Click Yes.
  • Exit the Killbox.
* Run ATF Cleaner:
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
    • If you use Firefox:
      • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
      • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    • If you use Opera:
      • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
      • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
  • Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
* Restart back into Windows normally now.

* Run ActiveScan online virus scan here

When the scan is finished, click on the "Save Report" button an save the results of the scan to your desktop.

Note: You have to use Internet Explorer to do the online scan.

Post a new HiJackThis log along with the results from ActiveScan

* Also open Hijack This and click on the "Open the Misc Tools section" button. Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button. Click the "Save List" button. After you click the "Save List" button, you will be asked where to save the file. Pick a place to save it then the list should open in notepad. Copy and paste that list here.

My computer is running very well now. I have no pop-us and I can find no spyware. Do you have any other scans that you would like to see or programs for me to run?

Sorry for the delay. It is my tenth wedding anniversaty so I had to be away.

As far as I can tell, you're good to go! thumbsup.gif

* If I had you use Killbox to delete any files, go ahead and delete the C:\!Killbox folder then empty the Recycle Bin.

* Check this out for info on how to tighten your security settings and some good free tools to help prevent this from happening again.

* Go to Windows update and install all "High Priority Updates".

* Now turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done.
