Hello and welcome to GeeksToGo. My name is Kat, and I will be helping you. You should either print these instructions, or save them to a Notepad file on your desktop for easy access.

The first thing I need you to do it to turn OFF your WinPatrol protection until we are finished. Having it running while doing the fix(es) can interfere, causing us to have to work harder at cleaning you up! :tazz:

The second thing to do is to UNINSTALL Logitech's Desktop Messenger via Start>Control Panel>Add and Remove programs. That will get rid of all those 018 lines in your HJT log. The messenger is NOT needed for your hardware to work properly, and it actually will hog up a LOT of resources!

ok, ON with the fix! ;)

1. Go to Start | Run

Then type services.msc

This will lauch a new window, scroll down on the list and search for CyberArmorRunService

Right click on this entry and select stop

Now right click and select properties, you will get new box with tabs.
In the General Tab, look for Start Up Type: in the drop down box select Disabled

Click Apply then OK and close out of the console.

Reboot into SafeMode and do the following:

Open HJT and click the "Open misc tools" section. Then click "Delete an NT service". In the text box paste or type CyberArmorRunService and click OK. Then let the machine reboot!

2. Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:
Nailfix.zip
If this link is not working, please download it from here.
NailFix.exe
Unzip or save it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

3. Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
SafeMode Help

4. Once in SafeMode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd.
Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

5. Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the scan log file from the scan.

6. Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp.../search/ie.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.yahoo.com/?.home=ytie

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: cahooknt.dll

O23 - Service: CyberArmor Run Service (CyberArmorRunService) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\CYBERA~1\casvc.exe

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

Viewpoint
CyberArmor Run Service

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

Please delete these folders using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\Program Files\CyberArmor Run Service
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint

Please delete these files using Windows Explorer(if present):

**Do a search for the following by using Start>Search ... and make sure you check the boxes to search hidden files, system files, etc:
cahooknt.dll

After that, Reboot.

7. After the above is complete, please make a reply here by using the "AddReply" button. I need to see a copy of the Ewido log, along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Hi Kat,
Thanks for your reply. I had almost given up and had not checked back. I have done some additional work since my first post. I will repeat your steps as there is still something up.

It will be a few days until I get a chance to do all this again. Please don't forget about me.

Edwino's free period has expired and I guess I need to buy it. A worthy product is worth the money. Which brings me to the question..if I submit a donation does that go directly to you? That would be nice for you if it did. I plan on making a donation when everything is set.

You get the free juggling lessons too! :tazz:

Hello again! Go ahead and do the steps when you can, and then post a fresh HijackThis log here in a reply so I can take a look at where we're at!
IMO, Ewido *IS* worth the money. I purchased it myself. however...you CAN still use it totally. You ONLY lose the "automatic update" feature...you can still manually update it each time you wish to run it.

Make sure you run Ewido in SAFE MODE, please..and don't "multi task" while it's running. Please do not open ANY other programs, files or folders while Ewido does it's scan. ;)

Yes, donations through the link in my signature come directly to me. I never expect any, so please don't think that would change the way I help you! You will continue to get the best I have to offer either way! :tazz:

::Report End

I still get 100% cpu usage from svchost but I only need to delete it once in task manager and it does not come back.

I just realized I did not have C:drive selected when searching for cahookne.dll.

I did another search and found it, deleted it. This was after I was out of safe mode and had connected to the internet. SHould I repeat any steps?

Thanks for your help Kat. I see you are from Central Ill. I grew up in Heyworth. Know where that is?

Thanks again.

Your log is clean now, and free of malware. Are there any other problems, other than the 100% CPU usage?? If not, I can suggest several "optional" removals that might free up some of your space/resources.

Here are the optionals I recommend removing, and their descriptions. As you can see, NONE of them are needed, and ALL of them can be causing your system resources tremendously.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Works Update Detection] C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\WkDetect.exe
We are against all programs which look for updates and/or update your software in the background, for one reason only : updates are sometimes worse than the present version !

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Works Portfolio] C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\WksSb.exe /AllUsers
Microsoft Works Portfolio which comes as part of Microsoft Works 6 or later. Portfolio enables you to drag documents from the Internet into the modules of Microsoft Works

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SiS KHooker] C:\WINDOWS\System32\khooker.exe
SiS Keyboard Daemon. System Tray utility which gets installed by the drivers of the latter day SiS VGA cards. Can cause errors at startup and isn't required

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
For a start, on many PCs EVNTSVC/REALSCHED slows down boot-ups unacceptably, using up to 90% of CPU time at times.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_06\bin\jusched.exe
We always recommend against having any software updating itself automatically, even if it prompts the user before applying updates. Stay in control of your PC and disable this task

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
Given the extremely simple functionality of this Tray icon, it is a totally unreasonable resource hog – it has been measured to use as much as 1.5Mb of memory at times.

O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Gamma Loader.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe
Unless you are designing jobs to print using Adobe and you know about colour calibration, this feature will be of little use to you, so you might as well disable it.

To remove these from automatically starting up, open HijackThis and scan for a log. Place a check next to the entries you choose to disable, and then click "Fix".

Also, try this, as well, to free up some space:

Download CleanUp
Install the program.
Running CleanUp
  • Start CleanUp
  • When CleanUp starts go to the Options button (right side of CleanUp screen)
  • Uncheck cookies
Note: This is optional, if you leave the box checked it will remove all of your cookies, at this point removing cookies is a good idea.
  • Click OK
  • Then click on the CleanUp button. This will take a short while, let it do its thing.
  • When asked to reboot system select No
  • Close CleanUp
Please post back and let me know how things are working now! IF this doesn't solve it, we WILL find what does! :tazz:
